Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceThink I'm pressing the wrong buttons .... lost my reply! Am going by sea because am nervous of long haul flight - figure if I collolopse on the way back at least I'll be home ;-) Going on a big ship has been a dream since seeing my Nan off on a World Cruise as a kid. Have often looked at the big ships from a harbour but this is my first time sailing on one. We're staying in New York for a couple of nights, then flying to Denver for a couple, and getting a car hire to spend 5 days on a ranch near Estes Park. Reassuring that travel will be easy when we get there - am very nervous!ViewDate:

Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceThanks for taking time to reply. Sorry have been offline awhile due to life pressures. We are sailing out and flying back - visiting New York for a couple of nights, then flying to Denver for a couple before joining the rest of the wedding party in Estes Park for five days. Rassurances that travel when out there is easy is much appreciated - am not well travelled and very nervousViewDate:

Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceHello, Again apologies for tardy reply Been going through the mill a bit - supporting others Thanks for the thumbs up on AGE UK ; will add them to my list. Sorry to hear you have a collection of conditions too - hope you do not have much pain and can make the best of the good days :-) Have reached the time when my body sometimes feels more like 90 than 60 and bless having a sense of humour (most days ;-))ViewDate:

Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceThanks Mike, Have been wading through quotes and hope to get sorted soon - just had too much going on. Will be sure to get insurance in place before we pay the balance and book flights. Knew about the ESTA but not the ETA - so many thanks for that.ViewDate:

First Trans-Atlantic crossing - on the Queen Mary 2. Help!Apologies for delay in reply, and Hello David, Cunard take an automatic amount for gratuities unless one says otherwise ... I think we'll just let it be, sounds like less hassle - and I wouldn't want to be mean, but can't afford to be over generous either. We have opted for first sitting in The Britannia restaurant as we have to be dressed by 6 anyways! Am not a posh person - but have to get the glad rags out for this one ( or rather buy some!) Happy New Year TinaViewDate:

First Trans-Atlantic crossing - on the Queen Mary 2. Help! Thanks for the input Mike. Apologies for being so tardy in reply - life's been even more hectic than usual! We are indeed sailing out and flying back :-) My eldest is getting married in the USA, and is a well seasoned traveller ; whereas I am simply very well seasoned and not well travelled at all! Treating myself to a once in a lifetime trip and hoping it runs smoothViewDate:

Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceHi Gertgert06 Thanks for the recommendation :-) May I ask if you've ever had any call to use them and if so what their response was like? Had a quick look at their pages and see the screening asks when conditions arose - hopefully I can check that out with the GP and my records will have come through from England to Scotland ( I know I've had AIH diagnosis since 2009 but have no idea when the hypertension began!) I know I'll probably not need to call on it anyways - but better safe than sorry.ViewDate:

Pre-existing Health Conditions Travel InsuranceMany thanks for coming back to me on this anf1408. I've not tried comparison sites for insurance before but sounds like you've had good experience with them and it could be worth a go. Your good wishes are deeply appreciated :-)ViewDate:

First Trans-Atlantic crossing - on the Queen Mary 2. Help!Hi Riversiderouge :-) Sounds like you had a wonderful time on QM2 :-) I still can't quite believe I'm going across the Atlantic on her - it all feels very surreal! My daughter is a well seasoned traveler (across Europe, the USA and Japan) and assures me it will all run smooth - but I'm little travelled and always get anxious about getting to unfamiliar places (even within the UK!) Good to hear the service is good. Feel a bit of an old fogey in that regard - as having worked in several private hotels in my youth I know it isn't easy - but courtesy costs nothing :-) Tip wise I was planning to stick to what's recommended and let that come out of onboard spend allowance ( as I don't drink alcohol and am not the Spa type; beached whale is a look only to be shared with nearest and dearest, I think :-) ) Thanks for the reassurance on clothes. Am a tad panicked about how much I need to take because we're doing such a diversity of things - formal dinners on cruise, comfortable clothes for city tours, and an outdoor wedding... Did you by any chance use the onboard laundries on the Queen Mary? Am thinking it could be wise entertainment on the penultimate day aboard :-) I do a reasonable impression of ordinary - being 60 helps - but am quite a bundle of diversity really. For example Lectures and Bingo hold equal appeal :-) (Haven't actually played Bingo since I was a child - but feels like a fun thing to do on the way second childhood) The other thing I'd love to do is the ship's tour but I understand it can't be pre-booked and places are very limited. Just crossing fingers most there will be more folk interested in the champagne lounge, casino, and sun decks :-)ViewDate:

First Trans-Atlantic crossing - on the Queen Mary 2. Help!Thank you for the input Riversiderouge :-) Particularly good to know that the tap water is drinkable, as I really need to keep hydrated. It is our first time on a big ship, and we're unlikely to be able to have such a great adventure ever again, so really want to make the most of it. We like meeting people so have opted to sit at a dining table with other travelers in the Britannia - hope that works out well... Neither of us are big drinkers - in fact I don't drink alcohol at all ( due to a serious health condition I'm reduced to smelling single malts - but fortunately my sense of humour remains intact ;-) ) Am a tad concerned about formal dinners as I am a trousers and flats woman but hopefully velvet trousers and sparkly tops will be ok for formal nights? Would love to hear more about your trip, and what you enjoyed best :-)ViewDate:

A local Care HomeLOL Bless him, he was obviously keen not to miss the meal and thought trying to sort things out would take too long. Having said that I think I would have got him some assistance - whatever he said - when my Mum called 111 they told her she was having a heart attack but she refused to phone an ambulance till my Dad had woken up and had his breakfast!!!ViewDate:
