Do you support Boris's decision to suspend Parliament?Complaining about the break down of democracy? Don't make me laugh. The European referendum bill 2015 was voted through and became an act of parliament by 544 - 53 votes. The vast majority of these MPs were subsequently re-elected to Westminster on a manifesto promise to deliver the referendum result. Subsequently a significant number of these MPs have reneged on their promise to the electorate and have taken every opportunity to thwart the referendum result. Don't get me wrong I can understand some might not like the concept of leaving without a deal. But to actively undermine a referendum result would have dire consequences for our trust in our political system. The intention is still to agree a deal, but without the ability to walk away without a deal it is somewhat akin to turning up for a boxing match with one hand tied behind your back. We were told quite clearly the referendum was a one off event and then government would deliver on the result. Boris is doing his level best to achieve this for us. Perversely by attempting to weaken the governments bargaining position by removing a no deal option it appears that MPs are pushing us ever increasingly in to just that - a no deal scenario. Leaving on WTO is not a long term commitment, agreements can and will be reached. However I do have hope that this won't be the case. As a country that is heavily dependent on exports to the UK and main funder of the EU Germany as the one paying the piper can call the tune - and German industry will demand that tune is a reasonable deal.
