Will the pandemic put an end to paying with cash? This is a ploy by banks and credit card companies to ship all finances there way, nothing to do with Covic 19. Cash in one form or another has been used for millenium, never ever a mention of catching a disease from it, if proof is needed quite a few small shopkeepers are only to glad to take any kind of payment as long as it swells the tills, so far I have not heard of one person transmitting diseases through the exchange of cash, unless somebody stuffed it in their gobb in the first place. Do you feel that freedom of speech is becoming restricted in the UK?What happens in a few centuries down the line, how boring life will be when we have wiped out all the cultures of the world, there is nothing more exciting than to hear another language being spoken, or the taste and smells of exotic food. there too many wishing to take over the world and put us all in the same big melting pot, there was a reason we were put on this earth to be different but with a coming together, dialect's within the UK. are all but gone, the language of a village or a County, I love the sound of these whether from the North, East, South or West. Overseas is a grander version. I fear the new language will be an on line vision with no Ebb nor Flow, no high notes no low notes or that of hard or soft, all the things that create boredom from living, in other words interaction, sometime un- palatable other times of love. all known as free speech. Are you hoping to go on holiday this summer or are you feeling hesitant?I am sorry I cannot stop laughing, because like a lot of people over a certain age, we are still under the governments lock and key, I think this certain age group of which I know many enjoy a cruise or a trip abroad with families or friends, it's a part of their well being package, there I go again talking about people of a certain age, when we do not know or have a clue when our well being clubs are likely to open again, so it is on the shelf till somebody say's Boris look behind, it is that unmentionable group you have forgotten all about, since you first said the word pandemic and we all run for our bunkers and have been there ever since. Grecian Empire, Egyptian Empire, Chinese Empire and so on, Black slavery was nothing new or even black. there are so icons of westerners as well as blacks as oarsmen of old sail ships going back centuries. Even in Christ time there were slave markets, so where and how will these facts be told, Humans have always been commodities in one way or another, I also notice certain Brits from 200. hundreds years ago who fought for an end to slavery. never get a mention. But I would as well like too see Region Memorials< I.E. one in the North, East, South & West as well as Northern Ireland, Wales & Scotland! Reason for this being I have two or maybe three Military Memorials all at the Arboretum in Staffordshire, at my age and health conditions, I have know way to visit. This is an unprecedented civilian NHS and others that have taken on this fight, I feel all areas of the UK should support their own as well as a Nation Memorial. Bob Scott.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsAge wise I think I am qualified to respond at the age of 82. years old, as somebody who has a number of health issues and a carer for my stoke victim wife, how are we ment to buy foo food when every thing today in the main is cashless and credit card is king, do we ask for an extension on our credit for four months or what ever period unknown is all over. some how I think not. Plus which is the most painful length of time to die f boredom or the coronas virus, just another government policy not thought though. Then there is the illusion somebody will seek you out to see if you need help, don't make me laugh this is not W.W.2. when every ne muck in and I mean every one, always caring and looking out for one another. Today I went to my local Tesco store to do the weekly shop, I though it was a Mammoth sale day when people were being told to grab as much as possible, then whilst queuing at the end of one of the isles, people whilst waiting making ever excuse under the sun as to why their trollies were so over loaded to other's in the queue, I had nothing to say as I was not on a guilt trip just a regular shop of which I could not complete due to out of stock items. Would you consider downsizing when you retire or have you already done so?Yes. I wish I had take the right steps before I had retired! but after a life time of paying mortgages the last on my mind was to extend it for any reason. but we had a grown up Son at home and we wanted to down size, but our Son said he wanted a larger house, so he had like a self contained flatlet. So I said if that is what you want you take out a mortgage for the difference, which meant he now has a third share in our property. So we are never going to get our little snug. Hind sight is a very good thing.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsHi Sally ! In my personal view news papers and tv are responsible for the deaths of the so called celebrities they promote, I think TV promoters should look more at the behaviour of those they promote and trust into the limelight, then to have that taken away at the end of a series, some are bound to go down that rocky road. Like wise with the New Years Honours mostly those whom one rubs shoulders with. Is it not time real people that change the world or Britain for the better to be Honoured? Those lock away in labourites seeking out medical breakthroughs, technicians working behind the scenes to try to eradicate plastic and finding alternatives. So many ordinary people doing kindly things ! without looking for a thank you, public service personnel. such as police fire and rescue, the plumber who gives a service for free service to older people. The list is endless these are good people not looking for reward but doing something just for humane kindness. What are you thoughts? Bob Scott.ViewDate:

Confusion comes in many guises, next month I will be 82. years old, plus I suffer over fifty years of spinal damage, Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia that is for starters, just over six months ago my wife had a stroke and I'm her main carer, so trying to keep the brain on a stable path is a big ask. Is Boxing Day too early for shops to display Easter Eggs? It's a sign of desperation! Shops have no Idea how to be creative any more, either to sell there wears or display them, this idea of yet another celebration stock drives customers up the wall. Instead of paying thousands of pounds to advertisement companies, set up competition amongst staff, they will feel involved and a overseas holiday for the winners family, a good holiday would be good value for the company and end up with an enthusiastic work force, Hold one per season of the year, not rocket science to come up with these ideas, it's the rut of staying in the past killing many of our high street stores. Which is better for the environment - a real fir or a plastic spruce?I'm in agreement with swaneldo? Simply to stop being a throw away culture, if people go for an artificial tree, when selecting one, don't think of just the now, but how many years will it last you, will it fold and unfold and still look the same year after year, which also depends on care one takes when decorating your tree, I like a real tree the smell of the fir. But the mileage involved, plantation to garden centre, to your home after Christmas to the tip from the tip to a composting site and so on, one tree equals a lot of Milledge. Bob. -
