Is Labour's new WASPI promise credible? In purely economic terms, it is completely feasible. It is phased in over 5 years, not in one-off payments. The westminster regime has already spent billions on the totally useless vanity project that is the brexit fiasco, and furthermore squanders 250+billion on the equally useless vanity project that is trident, which I might add is housed less than 40 miles from where I live. Billions in tax revenue are lost to the uk treasury every year through tax evasion which benefits the rich establishment and which the tories choose to ignore. Feasible? Don't insult my intelligence. Will it make me vote for labour? Not a chance - I am a WASPI living in Scotland and my vote stays with the SNP, who gave their support to WASPIs while labour were sitting on the fence waiting to see how the political wind would blow on this issue. The real question of whether this proposal is feasible is not an economic one - it is a question of whether voters in England will get behind it and vote labour. While I demand that restitution of the income I have lost come from the wm regime (because that is where ALL my contributions went), my chances of a comfortable retirement are more likely in an independent Scotland where state pension rates are likely to rise considerably and which independence would give the Scottish govt. the finance it needs to sort out not just the WASPI issue but many of the social ills that have been visited upon us by successive wm regimes for which we did not vote.
