How likely do you think family gatherings will be this Christmas?Like the last comment ...some people will do what they like especially if they do not know anybody who has had the virus and they will be quite selfish . The NHS will pick up the tab, don't worry ,,, that's the attitude. To hell with anyone else I am 72 I will not see my family unfortunately,, but i don't see a lot of them anyway because they are earning hard to survive. But it would have been nice I shall be cooking a nice juicy steak/mixed grill for myself I can watch tele when I want and finish the evening with a glass of port and some silton with pickled onions ... Not what I really want but there has been so many up and down our country that have done whatever they have want and to hell with anybody else , this is the consequence . How about changing the date until next year say , May or juneViewDate:

Is foreign aid better spent at home?Wel Rayot I do not know what planet you are orbiting but it is not one i am familiar with. This country now owes trillions of pounds How are we selfish God helps those that help themselves as the saying goes . When this country is a economically viable state things may change .this country is right by the top of the list in giving and i guess a lot of it is wasted and squirrelled away by despicable people hanging on to the gravy train If people want to give to charity ... thats down to them .Its this country's economy i and many others are worried about .I don't think that is selfish just plain common sense.ViewDate:

Is foreign aid better spent at home?Well we have a lot living on the street including our brave servicemen. We have people requiring food banks,we have people that can only afford second hand clothes. There supposed to be a need to feed children because their parent say they cant afford it and we have fat people who could do with losing a few pounds or stones, some of them parents that want all available food banks and children's dinners We have poor people who smoke ,often taylor made fags and some that seem to find money for a generous display of tattoos and nail manicures and some may like illegal drugs Other may be stitched in to high mobile and tv contracts I think we should take care of our veteran service men first then educate all the others to be self disciplined in money management , housekeeping ,cookery, learning how to use a sewing machine to make and repair clothes , personal health etc etc I am advocating that as we have become a needy country we use all foreign aid to educate and help those that genuinely require it here at home that want to be helped and educated. Its no good dealing out money across the world when we need issues in this country fixed . when it is fixed and I mean really fixed then is the time if we can afford it to splash the cash When we took over Hong Kong way way back the british governing body gave away very little if anything ,and this encouraged the inhabitants to stand on their own two feet hence when we handed the country over to China after 100 years of british rule Hong Kong was a wealthy country I guess I have stood on a few corns with my statement ,but please think about it .With this cache of money we can start year by years to improve the UK's social problemsViewDate:

Should the Proms be stripped of its favourite vocals? The SS vote shows how we think with 90% wanting the lyric as we have always done .What are the BBC playing at. If the people who live in our country don't want to hear the music in it entirety ,switch to another channel. I for one am proud to be an Englishman as are Scots, to be Scots and Welsh and Irish etc and anybody else that whats to be proud (I'm sure someone will pick holes in that statement) but I am also of the opinion that if people don't like it here they have 2 options .... shut up or move on . History cant be changed whether people like it or not. How dare people with minority thoughts dictate to the majority and end up winning. If this was the norm when we have an election the majority party would be in oppositionViewDate:

Should wearing a face mask be compulsory in shops?Such a good idea to wear a mask . So good for the diet, It stops people eating and save them money on takeaways . Sorry a sad joke really. On the serious note. I am surprised we have not been asked to wear a mask in shops etc before now. Although I have done it since day one. One problem with masks is when they are taken off the face, and the fear of the outside being contaminated by others. I carry small freezer bags and put one on my hand like a glove . Hence I can take my mask off without touching the mask in total. I then leave it in the bag until I can put it in the washing machineViewDate:

Which is your favourite Beatles Number 1 Single? If one looks at all the Beatles songs. Then looks at all the song that have been orchestrated and sung and improved by other artists. The Beatles were amazing songwriters . . I'd love to play Hey Jude on a large pipe organ like Liverpool Cathedral. This is the strength of the quality of the music, it's so versatile So many of the songs were pure genius . A lot of artists songs have one or two chords which make the song totally interesting and unique, The Beatles were no exception.ViewDate:

Are we on a countdown to chaos? The second wave is coming . look at the states this morning. We normally follow them .. What goes on over there, in time comes to the UK, and now the government is to take off the 14-day quarantine when one comes back to the UK from most of Europe. I call it being a weak government. Boris seems not to have the same drive and determination since he had the virus but it is common knowledge that virus sufferers take a while to fully recover . Recover completely real soon Boris Talk to the Spanish people and they will tell you that there are so many Brits and germans who do not respect their country that they would be quite happy if the bad element stays at home and to hell with the money. Yes fine, then look at whats happened this week on our beaches just selfish scum that left so much rubbish on Bournemouth beach alone, 21 tons. How many litter droppers are worried about our oceans. on what we have seen probably ... none...ViewDate:

Are we on a countdown to chaos? This government needs to harden up. Shut the beaches, give the police more powers It's obvious the advisors are worried and rightly so . The home secretary with other relevant ministers needs to stop pussyfooting around. If this government does not act now we will be back to square one thanks to a bunch of idiots. Where these beaches and Liverpool fans congregated pass laws to make them legally quarantine which is only advisory at the moment We have the machinery in place its called house arrest. It is my view the pubs and restaurants are opening too earlyViewDate:

Did the punishment fit the crime?Hi, CaroleAH yes it was a typo. I had two or three sessions of writing this. The last time I had to spell it out after writing it. I got it perfectly because the teacher thought he had rubbed it out at the top of the blackboard and as he was looking at me I read it off the board which was behind his back. I could not get out of the classroom quick enough. This is the first time I have spelled it since then.ViewDate:

Did the punishment fit the crime?I had a teacher who was welsh and liked rugby. If we did anything wrong we had to write 50 times 'Llanfaitpwllgwyncontosiliogochgoch'. If we could not spell it out after ...we did it again ...another 50 lines. If this spelling is correct at least I learnt something. but yes , its bound to be wrong , and guess what his name was Mr Parry the music teacher this was 60 years agoViewDate:

Will you be venturing to the shops this week?Well, I will go to the shops with my mask on, but not because I can, but only for specific items, I need to bu.y The restrictions on how we shop ie queueing and distancing have been at the advice of our scientists and our government. The 2-meter rule although difficult is because some people have not got a clue what that is in reality or could it be they are just ignorant and do not care. There are people that were educated in feet and inches and do not know that 2 meters is 6 foot 6inches. I will probably stir up a hornet's nest but my observation is that in the more expensive shops like Waitrose people seem to be more minded to observe the rules and keen to care, whilst in low-end shops, a lot of people don't care and 2 meters is often a lot less than 1 meter. It is so easy to get people to the water but damned hard to get some to drink. I feel so sorry for our governing body that are trying so hard but only to be ripped apart but opposing politicians who cant work altogether for the good of all. Then there is the business people ie aviation, who are only interested in profit for there own good and that of their shareholders. They don't care about the likes of you and me . They want the 14-day quarantine lifted. Our health does not matter to them . The only thing that does is money.ViewDate:

DyslexiaJust spotted this one .. I have had experience from family and myself also have been in further education Some forms of dyslexia can be helped when reading by purchasing 4 or 5 colours of acetate translucent A4 sheets from online or stationers. I found with students that the yellow sheet was the most popular. If using a computer, change the font colour and also the background colour until you find a combination to suit. The yellow background with a mid-blue font colour was the most popular, I worked in a workshop situation and always used this combination of colours on signs and posters which were for information only rather than legal requirement signage. I have found people so happy that they could read without help. This really can help self-esteem good Luck ... Happy readingViewDate:

Keyboards/pianos/organsHi Enchanted 7 Dandelion Thank you for your conversation . I thought I would help you overcome having to sight read and not playing by ear. I have done this and it works . This is favourable on a keyboard or piano. Start firstly with the right hand and go by semi tone up and down the keyboard and see how many chords you can come up with taking the top note as the dominant note and working out as many chords per dominant note . There are some chords that seem to often get used in film scores . There are also chords the gospel players use. I have found that some of the Gospel players on Youtube who give tutorials sometime suggest trying this . In the end you will be able to go up and down the keyboard and play chords that lead into the next one Augmented, Diminished, 7th,9th and so on . you can the invert chords in 1st 2nd and 3rd position The left hand not so difficult initially, perhaps start with octaves,4ths and 5ths I look forward to your comments and also from other players with systems that work for them. Although I am an atheist ... on Freeview TV if you look at the jimmy swaggart Church on no.263 and watch the piano player called Brian Hanley and what he can play with a good size band including a Hammond and full gospel choir this might give you a few ideas. The other guy that springs to mind is Jools Holland You ask what music I play well.... ballads, classic organ , pop, rock film music. religious, . your probably thinking ... what a mixture .. if you want some fun try the Bach D minor toccata and after about a page and a half drop into the House of the Rising Sun then revert back for about the last page to finish ( I use pages as an approximate measure of the music) . A lot of pop and standard songs do play well on a church organ . That,s if the vicars OK. I go and play a small village church organ for my own practice and fun.Final countdown comes out good and so does I'm a cider drinker ... I play that like a harvest thanksgiving hymn. If any body is in the church I either get miserable faces or smiles. The organ I have at home sets up quite good with its classic and theatre organ sounds as it has the equivalent of drawbars to get a basic organ sounds,. I then add colour with the various stop sounds I have read with interest what you have done are going to do musically. If you ever find one look out for a 'Selmar' Sax If you find a good one they are rated as a really nice instrument but they are probably at least 50 years old now and at the other end of the spectrum Woolworths in the 50s 60s sold a little soprano plastic sax . they were bought by players in big bands for a laugh but they played with an unusual sound and if you ever find one in good condition it would be at a premium I believe Woolworth trademark was Winfield . I don't know if these were thus labeled. Anyway Good luck on your musical journeyViewDate:

Keyboards/pianos/organsHi Enchanted7Dandelion Glad you have joined the chat I see you play a yamaha keyboard, steel drum and clarinet and looking to learn uke and saxophone . Am I right in thinking that the clarinet and sax are similar fingering. I see you have previously played electric bass . You sound musically versatile . I have thought about the uke myself because of the portability My keyboard is a 78 note which I find adequate but one has to contend with the weight aspect Look forward to your chatViewDate:

Keyboards/pianos/organsHi Silversammy It's great you have joined the chat . I was beginning to think there were no musicians around . its nice to see Sammy that you are into all aspects of music including teaching. I can read the dots but I have to slowly work through it but most of the time I play what I hear . Unfortunately the days of the home electronic organ seems to be dying .I go to an organ club and I'm a young one, and I am 71. I tend to think there are very few young people who have the patience to learn. There are theatre organ in the country where the circuit of organists is slowly diminishing as there is very little new blood Incidentally there is a Compton Theatre pipe organ Concert in Bristol this coming Saturday (22Feb 2020) afternoon 2.30pm at Eden Grove Methodist church Horfield Bristol BS7 0PQ The organ was installed in the Church Hall by a guy called Byron Jones and friends otherwise known as the 'Welsh Wizard' . Worth checking out on the internet I see Sammy you go fo low end Yamaha . My Yamaha El90 organ was £350 . I have had it for 3 years and play it every day . So Cheap . Was 9K when new. My Roland VA76 I bought 20 years ago it was a £ 1600 . It's still a heavy old lump to lug around as the action is semi weighted, so I understand why you go for light weight yamaha . I live in Somerset if you or any body else is inspires to have a jamm I look forward to future chatViewDate:
