Hi from ScotlandHi Carole. Yes I am enjoying living in Scotland. Along with my daughter. We live in a fairly substantial flat along with 2 chihuahuas. My daughter works in a local craft shop just around the corner from where we live and only takes about 2 minutes to ‘commute’ to work.. I can’t see myself ever returning to England but you never know.ViewDate:

My latest kitchen gadget. A digital pressure cookerNo problem. I fully understand your point of view. Some people cook one meal at a time. Some like me prefer mountains of food you can just dig into whenever you feel like it.ViewDate:

Tablet vs LaptopI’m now on my 3rd iPad. Started off with an iPad 2. Gave it to my daughter when I acquired an iPad mini. Didn’t like that so cruised through a range of Androids (all 2nd hand) then was totally gobsmacked at an iPad Pro that she bought. The picture and the sound (4 speakers) were incredible! So. I had to have one too! Thank goodness for the Cex shop, 2nd hand dealers. We both use ours frequently for Netflix, where as I’ve said. Both picture and sound are brilliant. I also love the way it automatically transfers information, pictures etc. to my iPhone 6 Which was also a daughter hand me down.ViewDate:

My latest kitchen gadget. A digital pressure cookerActually, I have found exactly the opposite. I’ve noticed some that my cooking actually improves after a little maturing. And who doesn’t want to just be able to ladle out some delicious ready made beef stew. Surely, enjoying ‘seconds ‘ or leftovers is far better than starting all over again from scratch.. and let’s face it, these days, the supermarkets refuse to acknowledge the concept of selling ‘one meal portions’! Trying every trick in the book to get you to buy more than you really need.ViewDate:

Coffee machines - how do you make your coffee? We thought we'd give the Kenco 'just add hot water' latté a try, and found that we really enjoy it. At just £1.50 for 8 cups in most supermarkets. It's a lot cheaper than the Tassimo we were regularly using previously. They make several different types of coffee but we prefer the latté.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandHello once again from Callander. Seems like a long time ago since I last looked in. Been up in Scotland for just over 4 years now. Yet it still feels like we only moved in about 3 months ago!. Time seems to fly past so fast these days! I'll try to look in a little more regularly now that my desktop PC seems to have finally allowed me to enter the forum, instead of restricting me to my ipad! 73 years old now! 74 in a little over 3 months. No major health issues to worry about, thankfully. Hi to all who may have responded to previous posts and never got a reply..ViewDate:

Windows 10 does anybody use it?On my recent home build PC I initially went for 8.1 and was satisfied with that. I upgraded to 10 but didn't like it so went back to 8.1. But as its getting near to the time limit of the free upgrade to 10, I thought I'd persevere. No traumas so far and it hasn't rejected any of my favourite software, some of which is quite ancient. So I guess I'm stuck with it. Although the first thing to go was Cortana! Then I just cleared the Start screen, putting all my most used apps on the Task bar instead.ViewDate:

What kind of birds have you seen in your garden today? We had a sad event with the nesting Blackbirds in our back hedge. One of the pups found a poor fledgling that must have fallen out of the nest. It must have happened during the night, as it was stone cold dead by the morning when we found it. We believe that there's a Dunnocks nest, a little further down in the same hedge. Lots of to'ing & fro'ing and chirping!ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandA while ago since I wrote that! In fact I will be 71 in two days time. I have to say that this forum is....er....unique in it's format. I am in dozens of other forums all with identical formats, so much more straight forward than this one. It's almost impossible to have a chat. You never know where your post is going to end up! I have attempted to initiate a couple of threads. No idea if there were any contributors to either of them! I find that I can communicate far easier on line than in person. So like to chat to people this way. Hi to anyone who has recently joined BTW.ViewDate:

The older you get, the harder you fall! Not yet. But living up here in the Highlands. I am so tempted to have a go at one of the local Bens nearby. I doubt if I ever will though. My daughter would probably chain me to my bed if I ever mentioned it! The nearest one, Ben Ledi is just at the edge of town and can really taunt one on a beautiful sunny day!ViewDate:

Games on your iPad, Laptop or phoneI will be 71 in 10 days time. But still find that I am fortunate enough to have to have a lively, alert brain. To this end, I regularly play Sudoku at the advanced level on my iPad. I've beaten the beast on several occasions. My best time being just 8½ minutes! An achievement I don't think I'll beat anytime soon. I also enjoy Solitaire and Spider Solitaire.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandHi. Sorry. Only just spotted your response to my post. I live with my daughter, or rather, she lives with me. We've been in our new house for 18 months now. My interests are birds of the feathered variety but also the larger ones which fly over at 40-50.000 ft!ViewDate:

New to this!Hi Linda and welcome to the forum. Maybe you're looking after your sons a little too well! After all, mums cooking is sometimes a hard act to follow! Don't they have girlfriends? My daughter (divorced) lives with me. Her excuse is that she's looking after me, although I do most of the cooking. I do appreciate her company though. MikeViewDate:

Best websites for jazz music loversI love 'Smooth Jazz' with the likes of Dave Koz, Rick Brawn and Paul Hardcastle. I was mortified when Jazz FM was changed to Smooth FM. Fortunately you can still listen to Jazz FM on line.ViewDate:

EbayI haven't sold anything for a while. With my original account I accumulated a feedback score of around 900 (all positive). But then closed the account, thinking I wouldn't use it anymore. So I have had to start from scratch. I gained a F/B score of 12 so far. I bought most of the components for my latest self build PC there.ViewDate:

Windows 8This may be a little out of context here, but I have always up until now only used an iPad to enter the forum. Yesterday I tried logging in with a new self build PC using Windows 8.1. But every time I tried to click on the 'log in' button, a whacking great pop up ad appeared, deliberately obscuring the button to prevent me from doing so! Then another pop up appeared, telling me, if I'm having trouble with pop ups, to call my ISP toll free, If I wanted to this to stop! So I just went back to the 'small screen' I shall call my ISP tomorrow, but if they want to charge me for doing this I WILL change ISPs! Has anyone else come across this?ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.I suppose I must be lucky. I don't mind being alone. I'm not anti social, but do prefer my own company sometimes. At the moment I live with my daughter (my house) She is recently divorced. And As I previously said elsewhere. My two children more than doubled their appreciation of their remaining parent after their mother passed away 8 years ago.ViewDate:

Which Forums do you visit?Hello. Good morning. It does appear to have gone rather quiet in here atm. Not sure if anyone new has joined us recently. In answer to the question. 'Are you a member of any other forums?' I am a member of several birdwatching forums. A 'Desktop publishing forum' a couple of computer forums. I generally try to find a forum for all of my interests. It's nice to be able to chat to others with similar interests to ones self.ViewDate:

What are you reading at the moment?I am way behind with Terry Pratchetts 'Discworld' books. I find it impossible to settle down to read, if I have any anxiety in real life. My divorce then my (ex) wife's passing away, put a hold on normal existence for quite a while. But I'm slowly getting back on track again. I also used to enjoy Terry Goodkinds 'Richard and Kahlan' stories. I've still got 3 hardback volumes to catch up on, which my son bought for me a while ago. I do use the Wattpad app on my iPad which has some brilliant stories. And best of all. They are all free!ViewDate:

Stargazing. ....cosmologyBTW. If it's not too inconvenient. You could try a factory reset on you iPad. It would mean losing any saved items. But sometimes it's the only way. And I do also have the same app on my Motorola Android phone. So it should work on the Samsung.ViewDate:

Stargazing. ....cosmologyYou must! It is brilliant! It uses GPS to accurately pinpoint objects. A central circle on the screen is used to select an object. Even indoors, if you point it at the ceiling it will show you what is outside in that direction.ViewDate:

Stargazing. ....cosmologyI am enjoying an app on my iPad called 'Skyview' free. You just point the iPad camera at any point in the sky (or below the horizon) and it will tell you what star or planet you are looking at. Even the space station. It even works indoors! So you can pre check what you want to observe in the warm, before you step outside.ViewDate:

What kind of birds have you seen in your garden today?Apart from the blackbirds nest building in our back hedge, we have a robin, a pair of Dunnocks plus blue/great tits and house sparrows. A very occasional chaffinch. Apart from those, my tally is a little disappointing! We do however get the occasional Raven in the Crags, a wooded hillside next to the town and always owls at night.ViewDate:

MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYThank you Kaz. Sorry! I've only just spotted your response. I'm wondering. Could it be marketed as a possible B & B, if the area is suitable? There always seems to be folk about, wishing to be their own boss and this could be small beginnings for someone.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandWe (my daughter & I) tend to take it for granted and are inclined to forget how lucky we are in the fact that we live within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs national park. We live in Callander, a small town, which the estate agents still like to refer to as a village! One bus per hour to/from Stirling, including one bus per day which drops me right outside the entrance to Morrisons supermarket. That and the senior bus pass makes a world of difference to 'the weekly big shop' . I do still drive. But it's nice to let someone else take the wheel occasionally.ViewDate:

Birdwatching.Yes, it can be difficult. We love cats and dogs also. The two pups will chase anything that moves, regardless of size! They tried to take on some Greater black backed gulls, down by the river. Twice the size that they were!ViewDate:

MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYAh. I understand the problem. I have to say. Your house is absolutely stunning. I hope you get a satisfactory conclusion eventually. I was fortunate. I sold a one bedroom flat (no mortgage) in London 18 months ago for sufficient to buy a 3 bedroom house in Scotland, with still enough left over to buy a reasonable 2nd hand car. My daughter who already lived up here, sold her flat and moved in with me. She and her brother get the house when I go.ViewDate:

MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYIf you haven't had any interest in your property, even after 2 years. Have you considered a property agency, who will buy your house from you? Obviously you won't get full estate agents market value (80% is what they usually offer) but a 4 bedroom house should still fetch a tidy sum. That is what my children did after there was no interest in my late ex wife's property, which they had jointly inherited. They received an immediate offer and completion within 3 weeks.ViewDate:

Birdwatching.Very happy to see that a pair of blackbirds are 'house building ' in the high hedge at the back of my garden. We will have to keep my daughters 2 chihuahua pups under tight control when in the garden. Luckily the only local moggie that we've seen in the neighbourhood, wears a collar with a bell on it!ViewDate:

How to avoid Cowboy Builders? There are several different companies around that offer this service. But all they are really doing is charging a 'fee per contact' to anyone that signs on. This can make some contractors get quite 'shirty' if you don't choose them!
