TV programme nostalgiaFor me, growing up in the 70s were a great time and there were some great programmes on the TV especially Saturday mornings. From what I remember, Marine Boy was on first but I have vague memories of Zokko! a pinball type machine. Very little survives of this and not much on You tube. Then there was the legendary Banana splits. This was a must on Saturday with the cartoons and other manic stuff with the cuckoo and the sour grape bunch. I wonder what happened to the little girl in the opening sequence? She would be in her 60s now. I always wanted one of those buggies too! There would be Tarzan and then a film. World of Sport or grandstand would be on. Another favourite was Here come the double deckers, where I found my first tv crush! I was only young but Gillian Bailey was lovely! Saturday evenings were a treat back then for us young ones. Basil Brush with Derek Faulds and later Roy North. Metal Mickey, and then of course the infamous Jimmy Savile. Dr Who had us hiding behind the sofa, then the Generation game. The Rockford files, then Saturday night at the movies would show films like The lost world and Valley of Gwangi. There was a series on Sunday lunchtime which we really liked, and that was Model World with Bob Symes. This gave a real insight into modelling. Does anyone else remember this? We loved Black beauty too along with The Muppet show.ViewDate:

9 best loved children's TV programmes of the 1970sI remember all these programmes and loved them. I liked Rupert, but that Raggety gave me the creeps! The Trumpton trilogy were favourites too. Chigley being my favourite.ViewDate:

PhotographyHiya, An old pal got me interested in photography a fair time ago starting with an old Zenith. I still have my old film cameras including a Voigtlander Vito B which has a wonderful lens. Along with a couple of Pentax I have a Bronica ETRSi which is a great medium format camera (I'll have to brush off the dust and get some film in). Up to date I have a Canon 40D DSLR which I enjoy using. For my travel pics I use a now old TZ10 which does the job nicely but would like a more up to date model such as Olympus 4 1/3 system. I haven't been out since before lockdown the last real shoot was at the Beamish museum. Prior to that was a really enjoyable Peaky Blinders themed shoot at the Black Country Living museum near Dudley. I enjoy landscape, historical places / vintage shoots and street/architecture photography.ViewDate:

Then and now: changes through the yearsThe fashions of the time were really nice. The ladies in their dresses look so glamorous and classy. Wherever the lived people made an effort with their appearance. The lads in their American Continental or Italian style suits ant the 'slim Jim' ties and winkle picker shoes. Now its jeans and skirts that look like they have been attacked by a ravenous swarm of moths. It seems that most men don't give a stuff about standards. You'll see a couple in a restaurant. The lady looks really nice in a skirt /top or dress and the chap is wearing tatty jeans and a football shirt. I was taught to make an effort and take care in my appearance. When I was in my late teens early 20's you wouldn't get into a place on a Saturday night if you weren't smartly dressed.ViewDate:

Then and now: changes through the yearsThe young of today would not understand what we went through. The tape running out just before the end of the song. The tape spooling out and wrapping around the mechanism. Would they understand the connection between the tape and a pencil? My Dad still uses the old style dial telephone too! I remember the price of a pint crossing the £1-00 mark and the protests it caused. Do you remember the different video formats? There was Betamax, and the expensive Philips V2000 system. The machines were huge and ridiculously expensive. VHS was the system that we all know that took over. You were something special if you could afford the Ferguson Videostar. Technology advanced and videodisc took over. They were the size of an LP Again, this did not really take off. After the 'Walkman' Audio tape advanced to DAT (digital audio tape). This did not really catch on as the compact disc was really taking off as the new music format then the disc man was introduced.ViewDate:

Will you be visiting your local pub this weekend?I fully agree with you Irene. The risk of infection however slight is not worth the price of a pint or two. We are enjoying a glass of red as I type.ViewDate:

Will you be visiting your local pub this weekend? We noticed that only the Wetherspoons was open in our City today, The smaller pubs were still closed. We rarely go to the pub locally, only when we visit the in laws at Shifnal. We go for the odd meal now and then. We are in no hurry to go to the pub. I feel a little apprehensive about going as the restrictions though necessary and understandable take the social side of going out less enjoyable.ViewDate:

Are you hoping to go on holiday this summer or are you feeling hesitant? We were expecting our holiday to be cancelled but as things are at the moment it is looking likely that it will go ahead. We're due to go at the end of July on a holiday to Greece. We have been made aware Our original hotel in Athens is not available so we have been upgraded to a deluxe room in a different hotel. We have three nights there then 7 nights on the picturesque island of Kea. The airport will be an experience. I would be a little more cautious to other more popular destinations or Portugal.ViewDate:

Women In MusicI love Thea Gilmore. Her albums 'Don't stop singing', an amazing tribute to Sandy Denny and Regardless are a great listen. Sandy was a wonderful musician and still missed. Who knows where the time goes has to be one of her finest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkOB57UcYk8 Fionnuala Sherry of Secret Garden is a wonderful musician. She really makes the violin sing. One moment your heartstrings are being tugged and the next you are dancing. Haunting and joyful melodies make superb listening.ViewDate:

Fashion and Beauty HacksI always try to make an effort when going out. I rarely wear jeans to go out for a meal or drink. It really makes me sad when I see couples out having a meal etc. The lady has a nice skirt and top or dress on and nicely made up and her partner is there in jeans and a football shirt or other. I rarely go as far as a tie but shirt and waistcoat with a decent pair of trousers and a good pair of shoes and I feel good. It goes back to the old days when on Saturday nights you wouldn't be allowed in if you weren't dressed smartly and made an effort. Look at the old photos from the 50's and 60s and the men wore suits and looked smart.ViewDate:

Being DifferentDear 'Samseta'. We are very much alike only with an age gap (I'm mid 50s).I don't have a large circle of friends but like yourself I'm an introvert and never really get reciprocal invitations. It can be disheartening and it is for me when your own work pals won't invite you for a pint or other. It really makes you think am I doing something wrong? I have been married for 23 years September but we haven't any children. 48 years in the same job must be a real achievement and you must have really enjoyed it. I have over 30 years at Jaguar Land Rover. I went through a spell of what you could call 'mental issues' a few years back and to pull me through it I bought myself a camera and it really helped. 27 acres of where you are would be lovely to wander taking photos and leaving things behind for a while. I joined a club and made a few friends. It is really helpful to have something to focus on. I am lucky though in having a lovely caring wife who has helped along the way. Take the package and enjoy your retirement, make the most of the time you have together. I wish you all the very best of health. Kindest regards, Stephen.ViewDate:

BakingMy mom was great at baking, her pastry was wonderful. She taught me to cook but the baking never rubbed off. I have tried making sponge but failed. They were rising really nicely then suddenly sunk in the middle. I made fruit cake years ago but haven't really ventured. I would love to go to a cookery class to do it properly.ViewDate:

Memories of the Summer holidays in the 70sMemories of 70s holidays are happy for me as a child. Black gang Chine on the isle of Wight will always be a memory. We spent most of the 70s at Paignton and Goodrington sands in Torquay. We loved the sea front and watching the steam trains on the Torbay steam railway behind the rows of beach huts going up to Kingswear. We had a visit there a few years back and it had really changed. It was 74 maybe 75 while we were there 'Seaside Special' was being filmed. I remember Peters and Lee being on and Tony Blackburn being there. We loved a visit to Cockington village. Even at that age we loved exploring the pathways and gardens.ViewDate:

PhotographyHello Carol, Those are the subjects I like to do. The 40s weekends at the Severn Valley railway are always very good as are the ones at the Black Country living museum and Beamish. I have done a few model shoots on a theme. The Film noir theme shoot was really good but my favourite was the Peaky Blinder themed shoot at the museum. It really does help you escape. Kind regards, Stephen.ViewDate:
