Older grandchildren who never say Thank Your for Christmas or Birthday chequesOK. I'm back posting after a break and drawn to this topic again. So far this year I've not received thank yous from the great nieces and nephews but one of their parents ( my niece) did text me to say how much they liked the presents. I'm hopeful I will get an actual thank you from them however! I decided this year to go small and just buy some items I knew they’d like based on their interests. It's not all about the money but when you spend a lot and then get no response it kind of irritates you even more I think.ViewDate:

Moving! Thanks for your comment. I realize I need to take it one step at a time and put things in perspective. That being said, we've found a place to rent that is going to be ideal for us by the looks of it. So that problem solved ! Lately we've been packing like crazy, though we have plenty of time til the move. But does feel good to be moving forward. The latest glitch however is the new home because we just found out the floor plan we chose will not fit on the lot ! The builder wasn't sure but just got the final word. So now it's back to the drawing board on that ! I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Believe it or not, I did consider the option you mentioned about living in a caravan ( or RV as we call them here in the States). Would've been an adventure for sure!ViewDate:

What are your all time favourite films?Yes many of the old (30s-40s) films are priceless. My husband enjoys the sci-fi and alien type subjects as do you by the sounds of it, I'm not as interested. Though we understand Avatar, which was a fabulous movie will begin filming a sequel. Think they said it will take til Dec of 2021 to be completed ! The costumes and special effects were unbelievable .ViewDate:

What is the most useless object you have ever bought?Wow, these are really funny. Makes me feel better about some idiot buys I've made in the past.....The most recent that comes to mind were a pair of sandals( I guess you'd call them ). They are made of some kind of plastic with flowery like attachment on top and a hot pink color. OMG what possessed me .....first of all they have literally no soles so zero support so can't walk anywhere in them. Listen to this though...I've hung onto them thinking I may be sitting on a patio someplace warm drinking a margarita/pina colada/glass of wine ( you get the idea...fill in the blanks !) and wearing this oh so stunning footwear. Being waited on of course so I don't have to get up and try to walk ( most likely stumble after the drinks session ) . Just flipping the shoes around on my feet for maximum effect. Hmmmm...they are starting to sound rather useful now ?ViewDate:

What did your mum used to say?My mother refused to swear. She got around that by saying "Hell's Bells " a lot. Guess that was OK.ViewDate:

Older grandchildren who never say Thank Your for Christmas or Birthday chequesMy pet peeve!! I don't have grand children, but great nieces and nephew who NEVER send a thank you. I've spoken to my niece ( their mother ) and she now , sometimes, will text me a photo of them with the present, or a thank you. But it's not coming from them ! My husband says I should stop sending them anything. Oh, they are aged 14,12 and almost 8. I wrote thank yous from the age of 7. No excuse. My other great niece and nephew send hand written thank yous and they are great !!! Speaking to others my age, this is now common among the " younger generation ". To me, it shows lack of manners.ViewDate:

Hello, from Portland, Oregon, USHi. Visited my cousin and wife in Portland in Dec. Other than the weather ( !) I loved the area. We hiked at one of the waterfalls and of course viewed Multnomah Falls and had lunch at the lodge( so cozy and historic ). Walked in the rain on other days, downtown( to that HUGE bookstore) and the Chinese Gardens. I even enjoyed the public transportation from downtown to where my cousin lives , not being used to that. I live in a rural area of northern Michigan. Anyway, I've got insomnia and just playing around on the site right now ! But wanted to share my experience . Oh. And it's so unusual when the traffic stops in Portland so you can cross the street ! That rarely happens anywhere else I've been !ViewDate:

Pen palsHi ! I sort of figured it might be hard to find. I just happened upon it, but it's no doubt different depending on your device. I'm on a smartphone and accessed it on the right hand side where a white arrow in a light blue box appears. Any luck ? Kind of frustrating eh ?ViewDate:

Who would like to discuss television programmes or series?I'm interested( as a US poster) opinions on how much you liked or disliked the following programs , which have more recently been shown in the US but are most likely several years old to you UK viewers: The British Baking Show ( I believe this is still ongoing though we are about a season behind here ), Poldark, Call the Midwife, Doc Martin, Last Tango in Halifax, Victoria, Sanditon,Endeavor. These have been shown on US television on the public broadcast system, most as part of the Masterpiece series. Of course. Downton Abbey too, but I'm more interested in opinions on the others. Or any that you would recommend. My husband and I have watched some of these. But always looking for something new and different. We think the programs produced in the UK, especially historical, are done far better than what we have here. The British Baking Show we just like because it's fun. Though we aren't too fond of the comedians that have been on the latest episodes. Thanks for any input !ViewDate:

Pen palsHi, I enjoyed your description and would love to proceed as snail mail pen pals. However, I am not sure how we can connect without showing personal info to get started ( mailing address ) ? I'm new to the site and looks like all comments show up on here. Am I missing something ? Anyway, I was a huge Beatles fan back in the day so your Liverpool connection is intriguing !! I also lived in Windsor ( yes, near the castle !) in the 1970s for 9 months. That said, England is my favorite country to travel to. Same with my husband , it was one of the similarities that drew us together ! Looking forward to sharing stories and getting the snail mail thing figured out ! JanViewDate:

Pen palsHi, I am an almost 68 yrs young female from Michigan USA. Your message caught my eye because I also love long letters, I've always loved writing. In my youth I had quite a few pen pals and in fact, still correspond with 3 of them, all of whom I've also met ! Now that I'm retired I'm always looking for new activities. Hoping you like " snail mail " as although I do email like everyone, I really miss writing and receiving the real thing ! If you are interested in corresponding let me know. BTW you don't say where you are from ?
