Have had lifelong interest in Gardening. Have spent the last five years or more going to an Adult Learning Centre in Rugby learning about British History. With my wife we enjoy cruising, having been to the Caribbean five times, mostly at Christmas.
My musical tastes range from Popular,(not pop) sung by Sinatra of course. Trad Jazz, that which followed Skiffle, and through to Classical plus the well known Operas. -

Are you deterred from going on a cruise or happy to keep sailing?Last nights show on ITV showed how the Cruise company were not considering passengers health. Money was more important. I wonder how many of the Crew are prepared to sign on again for more trips ?.ViewDate:

Make new friendsHello Bruce, always happy to hear from someone from across the pond. Well your 70 degrees has landed over here and being a person that loves gardening I am praying for rain.(Hopefully coming on Friday). I have been to the States a number of times, my brother lives in Lubbock,Texas, Been to Las Vegas 3 times and each time it was different. We did travel around the New England states in the year of the Atlanta Olympics. What an area to be in in the Fall. We are now into our 8th week of lock down, but things are easing, I am going to play golf Thursday, Yippee. My wife and I have been walking twice a week and working on our allotment, (vegetable garden) It gets us outside. I managed to finish reading Bleak House by Charles Dickens and now reading a Jeffery Archer thriller. I can recommend his books to you. I have to call on Amazon for more books, I like to read historical mystery books, learned about the Great London Fire and Plague of the 1660s, it was worse than Covid19, (Caught it on Sunday-Dead on Monday). I'll leave you with that thought. Nice to hear from you.ViewDate:

Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad - 1900I downloaded Charles Dickens classic novel, BLEAK HOUSE, some two years ago and am on my second attempt to read it. IT IS A STRUGGLE. The sentences are so long and the characters seem to speak in a different form of English than I do. Many a word I have to refer to the dictionary to understand what they are meaning. And the story is very complex with many characters and sub plots that I just wonder what the conclusion will be. As anyone else had this problem ??. I have read other books by Dickens and managed them in one go.ViewDate:

Make new friendsHi Kate, although I have been a member here for some time, now this is the first time I have commented on the Forum. Because I have been stopped from playing golf, because of you know what, I have plenty of time on my hands . I enjoy gardening and have an allotment. I enjoy reading also, (150+ books on my iPad), mostly thrillers, but I am now on my second attempt at reading Bleake House by Charles Dickens. I find it hard going, such long sentences. Will I finish it ???. We are just finishing another week of glorious sunshine here, but I am sure you are used to that in Cyprus. I have Travelled many parts of the world but not your island. Keep up the chatting.ViewDate:

Where to find free adult colouring pages onlineI started because my wife bought some colouring pencils and a book for our grandchildren to us whilst with us two years ago. they only coloured in one page. I took this pastime up to save throwing pencils and book away. I now have four colouring books and five packs of coloured pens. It is a great way to while away the hours sitting in our conservatory with the radio on and filling in the numerous pages of way-out designs.ViewDate:

The truth is out thereI cannot understand why some Web sites persist in using White coloured Text on a Light background, i.e. Silver surfers. I have emailed a number of sites regarding this matter, but none have replied to me. Do they not like critical comment. Surely a leading page would be easier to read and attract attention with a Light text on a Dark background, or vice versa. I know that I am not alone with having eyesight which is not as good as it once was, and often find reading such first pages difficult and sometime turn them off.ViewDate:

Should the World Cup be held in Qatar in 2022?Qatar....No, Russia....No. Corruption in one , Civil Rights and Hypocrisy in the other. As someone has said Qatar has no history of being a Soccer nation, but they have the money and money talks in FIFA. And Putin will turn a deaf ear to anyone no matter what other nation think.ViewDate:

Should Winter Fuel Allowance only be given to those pensioners who need it?I must say that it is nice to see the Notice of Payment for the Winter Fuel allowance arrive, but I don't think it would cause us to much of a problem if we did not get it. Should those better off pensioners get it ????. I don't think there are to many who refuse it. It's a Freebee and we don't get many of them.ViewDate:

Are you feeling happier as you get older?I have been retired for nearly 14 years now and I am happy with my life as it is. I can do what I want to do without pressure from anyone except my wife and myself. I have a part time gardening job that helps to pay for my golf and any gadget I might like to buy. I certainly do not envy my two sons having to go to work, especialy my second son who has to travel into London every day wasting over 2 hours of his day. -
