Just joined from ScotlandHello Elin, I also like to read. Currently, I am reading (again) “Ferney” by James Long. Have you read it? Thus far, I’ve read all of Diana Gabaldon’s books, and I recently discovered books by Jane Clarke. What kinds of books do you enjoy?ViewDate:

Janel Just Joined!Hi Janel, I lived in Maine 10 years and recently left there in September 2019. You were so right when you said it isn’t easy meeting people there. I wasn’t a church goer, so that eliminated one possibility of making new friends. I live in SC now, and there are a lot of opportunities to make new friends here via meetups that have nothing to do with dating, although there are some available for those who seek to date. I joined two social groups that were very active before the virus emerged and shut everything down. Where did you live in the mountains?ViewDate:

All new to thisI lost someone involved in an accident. The pain of suddenly losing him was terrible. I wanted that pain to end and found healthy ways to move forward. When I joined a grieving site on the Internet, that was very helpful. One woman was especially helpful when I read her post that said her husband had been gone 7 years and she still hadn’t moved forward and that she was still suffering. Honestly, my first thought when I read that was quite fierce - “ There is no way in Hell that I am going to allow myself to keep on suffering like that!” My second thought was that I was going to seek ways to heal so that terrible pain would end. I found ways to heal, and as time passed that horrible pain finally went away. You can heal too, if that’s a choice you make.ViewDate:

Just checking in!I’ll turn 65 in a few months, and I’m not depressed one bit about it either. Smile. I’m happy indoors or out. Lots to do either way, though if I had to choose between one or the other, I’d choose to embark on another outdoor adventure to a new place I’d love to explore.ViewDate:

Lonely and vulnerable and looking to chatHello MayaMac, Are you still in lockdown? I haven’t checked the news today. They set us “free” last week here in South Carolina. Since then I have done some exploring. I lived in Maine along the coast before coming here to be with my daughter and grandchildren, so the ocean was always near. Here in SC, I’m about an hour away. Last Sunday I was aching to see the ocean, so I drove to Sullivan’s Island where I discovered only residents were allowed on the island. Fortunately, the officer let me drive onto the island to have a brief look at the ocean because I had come so far. Bless his heart he made my day!ViewDate:

Lonely and vulnerable and looking to chatHello KiaraR, If they haven’t contacted you to see how you’re doing, then you should contact them to see how they are doing so you can then tell them how you’re doing. Sometimes you have to do things backwards to get the results you want and have a sense of humor in the process. There are so many wonderful things to do indoors! Make new friends on Silversurfers, surf the Internet on any topic that comes to mind because as you know - the Internet is the largest library in the world! You can teach yourself any number of things using the Internet, like knitting, drawing, painting, writing, guitar playing, and the list goes on and on! I hope you will reach out to people. I’m sure you’ll find new friends if you do.ViewDate:

I'm a newbieHello JuneN42, I have spent many hours researching Scotland because I’d love to see the Highlands someday. I’ve seen many gorgeous landscape photos that make me wish I could wave a magic wand and be there now! Unfortunately, the virus will probably prevent travel to Scotland for quite some time. How much of Scotland have you been able to see over the years?ViewDate:

I'm a newbieHello Fitzer, I am a content, peaceful woman who has been to Ireland. I was there in May/June of 1999 for 3 weeks. For about a week and a half I was so terrified of the narrow country roads and wild drivers that I was almost certain I’d be returning to the US in a coffin! At the first B&B, the owner tried to make me feel better by saying, “Just keep to the left, and if they hit you, it’s THEIR fault!” That didn’t ease my mind. So now that you’re retired, what do you do with your free time? Do you have grandchildren nearby to entertain? I have a granddaughter age 14 and a grandson age 7, and I enjoy spending time with each of them. Well, I hope to have good hearted banter with a happily married Irishman!ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hello Christine249, I am fortunate here in my home with a sweet daughter and two grandchildren. If I want to mingle, I do. If not, I stay in my large room where I can read, do genealogy, watch TV, draw, knit, or finally learn to play my guitar! Because I have so many interests I was never bored when we were under lockdown orders. Yes, eventually all of us must cope with growing older, and the actress Bette Davis was wise to say. “Growing old isn’t for sissies.” You look to the past to enjoy fond memories and look to the present to do those things that could or will bring you joy. You find joy by “doing,” and reaching out on this site for friendship is a positive action. I hope you make good friends on Silversurfers!ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hello Celtwitch, I too have had quite a number of jobs and began my college days later in life at 33. I earned a professional teaching certificate but never held long term positions because I had the good fortune to travel instead. I designed and help build three homes, the last one being my favorite. As a single woman, I dreamed that one up on my own! I have one daughter and two grandchildren. Who knew being a grandmother could be so much fun as well as educational! I enjoy making friends, travel, reading, genealogy, art, writing , movies, and more. Well, that’s about all for now. Enjoy this beautiful day!
