Should teaching the National Anthem at school be compulsory?Yes! I totally agree with you both! When I went to school in the 1950's, we were taught History, Geography and Religious Instruction. We learned about other countries, especially those in the Commonwealth areas, taught at least the basics going back to pre-Roman times etc etc. History and Geography were my favourite subjects (apart from learning the dates..). Even here in Canada not enough History and Geography is taught and I think that's bad. We were taught to be proud of our country, and I know that Canadians are taught that and it shows...without them being boastful about it!ViewDate:

Should teaching the National Anthem at school be compulsory?Yes!!! When did they stop teaching the words, not only to the National Anthem but to other songs such as Land of Hope and Glory etc? It's called 'respect for your country and what it stands for' and they should also be taught how to stand properly while singing the Anthem! I emigrated to Canada many years ago and still live here, but I still stand and sing the British National Anthem when it's appropriate over here (when we have visiting Royalty for instance) and in Canada every child is taught the National Anthem at school, and most Canadians sing it proudly! Myself included!ViewDate:

Will you be sending Christmas cards this year?I will be sending Christmas Cards but just a few, far less than I used to send. My cards will be mainly going to relatives and friends in the UK (I live in Canada now) to keep in touch with them. I usually include a short letter with the card. I used to send at least 25 cards to the UK but over the years this number has shrank so now I'm only sending about six. In Canada the numbers will be about the same or less.ViewDate:

Finding the right senior chat room for youVery good article about joining chat rooms! I have been on the Internet since around 1997 and back then I had no clue how to get started, so the first thing I did was put in a search for any website about one of my favourite TV shows...Coronation Street....and up popped quite a few websites. So once i had figured out how to navigate around them, I landed on a Corrie Guestbook and Chat Room...and the rest as they say, is history! In that chat room I met so many people from all over the World (but mainly the UK, Canada and Australia) and many of them are still my friends and some pretty close friends at that....all these years later! I have had the pleasure of meeting up with quite a few of them too which helped me overcome my shyness in meeting new people for the first time. Of course back then I was still working (I was in my early 50's) and now that I'm retired and still great friends with many from the original chat room it helps me to continue to connect with them on a daily basis as I dont' have many opportunities to meet new people where I live. Now we all have migrated to Facebook which I view as a good thing and a bad thing at the same time! A bad thing because it's addictive but not as secure as the chat room I belonged to before Facebook existed! I also find a lot of the stuff on Facebook is intrusive, yet I still go there each day! The advice about protecting your information in chat rooms is very good and important! Also clearing out your 'history' on a regular basis is important information too. I have some friends I have known all my life who are only now just getting more familiar with the Internet and are still learning about how to protect themselves. I'm not an expert in computers but do know a good bit due to being online for so long and I found I learned a lot of stuff by talking to various people in the chat rooms. People are willing to help the 'newbies' most of the time. So don't be afraid to chat....it's fun! -
