Would you have a fake lawn in your garden? As with most things that become popular, (latest being face coverings) cowboys appear. To take advantage of ignorance. So be extra careful. Check on references or reputation. ALL the steps I’ve listed MUST be followed by the installer. Good luck.ViewDate:

Would you have a fake lawn in your garden?I’m not now and never have been an employee, nor know anyone that owns or works for an artificial grass company. If you google, ‘Artificial grass’ many companies will have adverts. The best companies will give you step-by-step guidance from which product is best suited to your needs. The price, per square metre or yard and how to lay it. You will need to cut out ALL the existing lawn that you want covering in the same sort of depth as you see in turf clods, times 2. So roughly 150mm or 5 or 6 inches to be dug out and disposed of. SPRAY THE AREA WITH WEED KILLER. You need to replace most of this mass with mot (hardcore stone) A bulk bag covers about 14to 16 mt/yd’sq. With the hardcore spread out you either garden roll the level or (best) hire a ‘wacker’ plate and level the area. Then rake an inch/22mm of rough sand over it all and roll or wack again. Use timber shuttering and a scraping board to level as you would putting in a concrete slab/floor. Cover the area with a good quality weed control matting. Roll your artificial grass out and fit as you would a carpet. Smooth out by pulling, cursing and questioning why you chose to do this task. But you’ll get it right in the end. Try to ‘bevel’ edges so they are slightly (an inch?) lower than the main layer. Yard brush in a Few bags of kiln dried sand. Get the sun lounger out and a cool one. Enjoy!ViewDate:

Would you have a fake lawn in your garden?Hi, just joined, ‘Silver Surfers’ and like the overwhelmingly self opinionated person I am. I felt I had to comment. As well as working full time 2 days and 2nights. I also worked on landscaping with a pal, before I retired. He eventually left the place we were employed at to do it full time. We did from industrial sized places to cottage gardens. Over the years oftentimes times older people said, “Dig it over, I’ll get the veg from Tesco”. Others were so determined. One guy was so arthritic, he had ‘Crawling boards’ when he would literally crawl around his veg patch. I’m of the former. Front and back of the house is plastic grass and concrete slabs or gravel border. Pot plants and grasses. The lowest possible maintenance. The front garden is interesting, as we actually have moss growing and only today in the unseasonable hot September we spotted a confused grasshopper. I my last years I want less to do physically not more. My top tip for those considering fake grass? Buy the most expensive you possibly can. As usual it’s normally the rule of thumb. You’ll get what you pay for. -
