Cruise companionI have never fancied a cruise. Someone who went on one said it was magical the way you could go to sleep and wake up somewhere else. This changed my view a little. I suppose it would depend on the cruise. When visiting somewhere recently the guide told us we had done the timing right because the cruise ships hadnt started arriving because once they did people were crammed like sardines into places worth visiting and hustled through to the gift shop. This has been confirmed by those i know who go cruising. Dont fancy that. A cruise round the fjords would be my choice I think.ViewDate:

People who make no effort when buying giftsI suggest that you stop exchanging gifts. For some choosing and giving a gift is a very important act of love. For others it is a chore imposed by convention and other peoples expectations. There is nothing to stop you giving a gift just dont expect reciprocation. Why were you still expecting this after 20 years of evidence? Myself, I reckon teh ONLY thing anyone has to offer is time, attention and company. These are the real gifts and if you have those from the friendship then items while they can bring a smile are not what matters.ViewDate:

I just turned 69. Am I to old to relocate?Go. I would suggest putting your belongings in store and taking a short term let where ever it is you wish to move to. See whats on offer in the local community. There's a few friendship groups on line like meetup, city socialiser, open sports, that aim to bring people together for face to face events. Not during pandemic tho. Soon as it becomes feasible I'd say go. You can plan and dream and prepare til it's possible. New start. Do things you never tried before. Join a community choir, amateur dramatics, climbing, power lifting, archery, chess, Doesnt really matter what, if you havetn done it before have a go as soon as you canViewDate:

Grey pound holiday bookings surge as vaccines rolled outI do not think there are many countries where traveller will be welcomed from UK even if they do need the money. Vaccinated people can still spread the virus. Would someone who has booked please help me understand why it is important to book a holiday when everythihg is so uncertain. I really dont understnd so any pointers gratefully receivedViewDate:

BrexitI fail to see how a tiny island off teh coast of france which imports at least 50% of its food and doesnt make anything very much any more is in any position to negotiate good deals with anyone. Jaguar Landrover gone, Nissan going, Ineo auto going, Honda going HSBC and other financial house who did 51% of Uk exports all taken HQ to eu and left a branch office in uk. If the future is so good would one of the persons whobelieves it will be better for me an ordinary person please explain what it is I have to look forward to.ViewDate:

Brexitfishing is less than 1% of our gdp and the report from greenpeace indicates that the bulk of the quotas in Uk are now owned by corporate fishing whose owners are on teh Times rich list not local trawler fleets.ViewDate:

With the vaccination programme under way, how likely are you to book a holiday this year?Even if you are vaccinated you can still spread teh virus to other people. So the question is who would you like to potentially infect? Greeks? Spaniards? French? IF those countries will let you in that is. Doesnt depend only on what's happening in UK either.ViewDate:

What do you think of Starmer's leadership of the Labour Party?I am surprised that no one seems to mention the influence of the popular press in UK. Those tabloids with the highest circulations are all very right wing and assisted in the anti Mr C campaign and vilification as did that bastion of the left the Guardian. How then was anyone to obtain reliable information without a great deal of effort on either of the 4 parties and their manifesto/election promises? Promulgating a general election as a ramification of the leave eu campaign was blatantly manipulative. Non conservatives should have campaigned on NO MORE cuts to the NHS, fund the NHS, Save the NHS and workers rights. They couldnt get a word in edgeways in the uk media.ViewDate:

Weddings - who should pay for what?I do not understand why young people think their parents should pay for a wedding when it is far far more important to get decent accommodation for their future. Perhaps if they had to pay for it themselves they might set their sights lower. It is not necessary or even a good thing to allow such a piece of one up manship and consumer display to be the start of a new life. Start telling them young that if they want a disney type wedding they should start saving up themselvesViewDate:

Older grandchildren who never say Thank Your for Christmas or Birthday chequesHave any of you explained to the parents or even better the children that it is a good thing to treat people with courtesy? There is an informality within most family circles where the individuals are in contact daily or at least regularly. More formal courtesies are not even mentioned let alone encouraged or expected. Why not simply say that unless well mannered thanks are received there will be no more gifts? You could say this to the parents first then teh youngsters themselves after the next birthday/easter or gift giving date.ViewDate:

Will you be joining in the Clap for Heroes on Thursday?Only if our govt like teh NZ one voluntarity accepts a pay cut of 20% for 6 months to help teh country and the NHS staff are given the pay rise this govt voted against earlier this year and last year and probably the year before(tho I havent checked that).ViewDate:

Do you think we need tougher lockdown restrictions?Except it started too late and people were going to work on crowded public transport without masks, bus drivers without protective screens etcetc. Cheltenham allowed, football supporters from Spain which had huge numbers of infected allowed into UK. passengers arriving in uk are only now 10 months later being checked at all.ViewDate:

Silversurfers Book Club Winter 2020/21I am disappointed to see only one online bookseller promoted here. There are so many uk based online services that people could use. That said I would love to hear recommendations for some decnt detective/who done it titles. last ones I thoroughly enjoyed were the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny.ViewDate:

"really" making new friends!Join something which has weekly meetings. It's hard to get to know anyone enough to pursue a friendship if you only meet once a month. It almost doesnt matter what you join, a knitting club, a community choir, archery club, bridge, chess voluntary public space gardener groups. Seeing people often and regularly is the key.ViewDate:

"really" making new friends!Join something which has weekly activities. I took up crown green bowls( a northern pass time it's lawn bowls in the south). I was persuaded to try it by the constant suggestions from a person in the community choir I joined. I took to it straight away despite my reservations and reluctance. I have already had an invite from another player to show me around her birthplace Isle of Man on a day trip once we are allowed to travel again.
