getting out of the E.U.In fact, if the EU eliminates the low and zero rated levels on VAT it will cost you an extra £9,000! When will that happen? Nobody Knows as we have NO CONTROL over the EU's decisions with only an 8% say in any EU vote. Ref my comment above. I read yesterday that the EU is considering removing the zero rated VAT on childrens clothes and food. Can Cameron do anything about it? NOViewDate:

Should smoking be brought back into pubs?I heartily agree that smoking should be allowed in pubs and restaurants which choose to allow it. Unfortunately what your campaign and your correspondents do not appear to understand is that smoking in these places was BANNED BY THE EU! Hence there is no point in discussing this issue because we cannot change an EU ruling. Therefore the smokers, and all the rest of us, have lost 80% of our vote which is the proportion of rules and regulations imposed upon us by un-elected bureaucrats in Brussels. I have never smoked in my life apart from 1 fag when I was three which nearly choked me to death, so luckily I never bothered after that. However, I am a firm believer in freedom of choice and this is something we have lost and are all paying the EU heavily for while we remain in the EU. I do believe that smoking should be banned in public places where smokers and non-smokers have to mix. That is a law which our useless politicians in Westminster are fully capable of implementing without having to rely on the EU imposing it.ViewDate:

getting out of the E.U.Well said Gibbo! It is high time that all the citizens of the UK realise how much the EU costs us, not just in our sovereignty nut in hard cash as well. Do you realise that if we stay in the EU for another 5 years under this Tory government it will cost our economy over £1 trillion? In addition, every householder will have to pay at least an extra £2,500 on the cost of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), at least another £625 on EU green levies due to EU carbon reduction taxes on your power bills and at least another other £1,000 on direct contributions to the EU out of the VAT you pay on all your purchases. In fact, if the EU eliminates the low and zero rated levels on VAT it will cost you an extra £9,000! When will that happen? Nobody Knows as we have NO CONTROL over the EU's decisions with only an 8% say in any EU vote. Why anybody, particularly silver surfers, would want to stay in the EU baffles me as the CAP costs apply to everyone who buys groceries, even if they are on a pension or benefits. The ONLY way forward is to vote to get OUT of the EU if we ever have a referendum! These comments should be highlighted by the Silver Surfers web site!ViewDate:

Should Britain stay in the EU or is now the time to leave?A very well stated analysis of the EU. It is incredible that many more people do not appreciate the disastrous implications of staying in the EU and the lies and deceit by our politicians in the Conservative/Labour/lib Dem parties for over 40 years to justify our staying in.ViewDate:

Should Britain stay in the EU or is now the time to leave?I do not believe there are any conflicting issues as stated above. There are absolutely NO benefits to being in the EU which we could not have out of the EU. For example trade! Since joining the EEC in 1973 the current value of our accumulated trade with the EU is a massive deficit (loss) of £1.25 trillion. Up until 2009 the current value of our trade with the rest of the world was a surplus (profit) of £234 billion. Do you really believe the pro-EU doom merchants who say that the EU will stop trading with us if we leave? What rubbish! Also, do you all realise that while we are in the EU for the next 5 years big business, the CBI and the politicians are making all households pay (on average) an extra £3,300 on our shopping bills so that they can give it to EU (mainly French) farmers and directly to the EU in VAT payments? In addition, they expect every tax payer to pay an extra £5,000 to pay for the EU budget contributions? This money has to be paid by everyone including OAP's like myself and people on the lowest wages. We would all be much better off OUT, particularly as being in the EU for another 5 years will cost our economy al least another £1 trillion, and we already have a deficit of £90 billion!
