Are you happy to pay for your shopping bags?Wilf, although I recognize your reservations about incinerators, how would you resolve the problem of waste disposal? We can't go on filling our earth and it's certainly not right to take our rubbish to poor countries who will get a few pounds for taking it in. I lived near a large pulp mill in Canada years ago, and until technology was able to help, it wasn't a pleasant experience going through the miasma produced by the mill. However, with new scrubber technology and other wonders of modern industry, the odour is hardly detectable. Every day thousands of tons of jet fuel is burned in our atmosphere, cars (and especially diesel vehicles) emit harmful pollution, even with catalytic converters. There is no 'nice' way to destroy our rubbish, but filling the earth anywhere with garbage, which produces our food, albeit animal, vegetable or fruit, must stop. Denmark, a smaller country than the UK has incinerators and apparently seem to be working very well.ViewDate:

The battle of the supermarketsYes I agree on the point about pressure at the checkout. We're asked to unpack for the cashier, repack quickly and move items to a side table for putting into our bags! Very annoying.ViewDate:

The battle of the supermarketsAldi doesn't necessarily have the full range of products that for instance, Tesco, might have, but for everyday food stuffs there is ample to choose from at excellent prices. The store I go to is clean and tidy too.ViewDate:

Are you happy to pay for your shopping bags?As a 'silver surfer' I can happily remember my mother using non-plastic bags for shopping. The advent of the plastic carrier has caused rubbish to increase and although there has been a lot of 'talk' about them disintegrating in landfills over the years, this is not totally true. There is now ample evidence that all that happens is that the plastic eventually becomes a form of dust which infiltrates into all organisms. Fish have been found to contain these particles. Personally, I'd prefer that all plastic is constructed in a way that it can be totally destroyed and plastic bags totally abolished. Perhaps if people stopped knee jerk reactions to incinerators, we could even stop using landfills - we can't keep filling our good earth with rubbish, encased in heavy plastic or not.ViewDate:

Should e-cigs be prescribed on the NHS?As smokers know the dangers and now have e cigs, they can buy their own e-cigs. That's only fair.ViewDate:

Should e-cigs be prescribed on the NHS?Although it has been suggested that by doctor's prescribing e-cigs as a way of helping people get off nicotine, I strongly object to the use of the NHS being used. If you've been smoking for years and now have gone on to e-cigs, good for you. However, as you've been paying extortionate amounts for cigarettes for years, then you can afford e-cigs. The NHS can't sustain itself for much longer without the help of the population not continually over loading it with colds and coughs, sore throats and bumps and bruises all of which can be treated 'at home'. Common sense can be applied to all these minor issues. The NHS has been a wonderful and humanitarian organisation: let's not abuse it.
