Looking for a Vegan Cheese Sauce recipeHello SissieSis, So glad to see your reply -- about "vegan cheese sauce" and about being a VEGETARIAN. I don't know if it's the same over in England, but here in the U.S., it seems like 98% of folks who are vegans or vegetarians are YOUNG people ! Not that there's anything wrong with this, but it does make me feel sort of "isolated." When I go to the grocery store, (almost) everyone who's in the "vegan + vegetarian aisle," buying their meatless items and entrees, are young folks --- in their 20's + 30's. I think that there's 2 reasons for this = The main reason is that, when I was being brought-up (all those yrs ago), there weren't a lot of vegetarians around. The only time I heard about a person being a vegetarian was when they were some artistic or eccentric man or woman. So, since most of us "go with what we know" and what we're use to --- and we older people are USE TO eating meat --- well, I think this is a major reason you don't see a lot of "senior vegetarians." The 2nd reason I don't see very many "old" vegetarians is because of WHERE I LIVE ! < I live in a sm. southern town that is very much "behind the times." Most folks here not "open" to new ways of thinking, and they think that I'm crazy for not eating meat ! Well, I think I'd better stop writing -- this msg. is getting so long ! I don't want your eyes to get tired ! Best Wishes, Vicki (catlady24)ViewDate:

Looking for a Vegan Cheese Sauce recipeHello SissieSis, i DO have a vegan cheese recipe, but I have to go thru my huge bunch of recipe cards to find it, but I will get back to you later. But in the meantime, I was wondering = Are you a Vegan, or just "experimenting," and that's why your request for vegan cheese sauce ? I ask this because I am a "partial vegan" and I sometimes feel "isolated" because NOBODY i know is a vegetarian or vegan. When I go grocery shopping, everyone who's in the vegetarian + vegan food section, putting items in their cart, are YOUNG people ! I think that's because older folks are "set in their ways," and we seniors weren't brought up in an era where there were a lot of people "eating meatless." < i.e. When I was a young girl, I only OCCASIONALLY heard about someone being a vegetarian, and when I did hear this, it was always some famous, eccentric person ! Anyway, I'd love to know if you are a vegan, and if so, is it for "humane reasons" or for "health reasons ?" Best regards, Vicki (catlady24)ViewDate:

Pen palsHi Doreen --- Haven't heard from you in awhile. What have you been up to ? How is the "opening" of your country going ? I think that you (or another penpal) told me that Britain was opening-up, since shutting down from the virus. Take Care, VickiViewDate:

Pen palsHello Tawny (your real name is Gillian ?) --- So, you DID hear about that murder. Did they ever find out who did it or a motive ? This world of ours seems so evil lately ! It was wonderful to hear about your friends that rescue dogs + puppies from puppy-farms. I can't begin to tell you how much it breaks my heart when I hear about the inhumane treatment of animals ! And I'll bet that the people running these "farms", and the many other people that treat animals inhumanely --- I'll bet a good lot of them "believe in God and go to church !" < I've experienced a lot of "so called religious folks" who act all sweet 'n Godly but are not nice to animals ! *I see that you responded to me 5 days ago, but I was unaware of this since I never got one of those "email alerts" that SilverSurfers sends out, letting penpals know that someone's responded to them. Hope all is well, Vicki (catlady24)ViewDate:

Looking for pen palsHi Sharon, I thought I was the only American that posted on Silver Surfer's Pen Pal site, but I see that you're from the U.S. too. I noticed that your post was on May 22 --- and since this was quite awhile ago, you might have tons of pen-pals by now and not "need" any more ? But if not, I'd love to inter-act. I see that you live in Colorado --- I live in Georgia. Hoping to hear from you soon, catlady24 Vicki CassonViewDate:

Pen palsHello Michele, I just saw your posting and was surprised to see that you're from NY ! I say this because of the fact that Silver Surfers is in England. Although I "managed" to find this "0ver 50 social network," and I'm from the US too. I live in a small city in southern Georgia called Albany. Anyway --- although I've only "been at" Silver Surfers for a 2 weeks, I've "met" 3 nice English ladies. But, I would also love to have a "USA pen pal." Best Regards, catlady24 (Vicki)ViewDate:

Pen palsHello Gillian, Sorry to hear that you might need a hip replacement. Did I understand you correctly when you said that Pilates might have cause you to need a hip operation ? Yes, I've heard about Curcumin being good for pain/arthritis, and that black pepper helps it to be assimilated better. You mentioned that you'd like a dog one day. I would too, but I don't know how my cats would re-act ? ? ? Don't really want to talk about depressing things -- since this chit-chat the 3 of us have going is suppose to be pleasant -- but did you hear about that 35 yr old woman and her 4 yr old daughter who were murdered in South London ? I just thought that this was SUCH a coincidence -- hearing something about South London -- because you had just told me (a day or 2 ago), that you use to live in South London ! My Best to You, VickiViewDate:

Pen palsGood Day Doreen, You asked about cats -- I have my 3 indoor kitties and I feed 7 outdoor (homeless) cats. I agree with you about the (very different) temperaments between cats + dogs. Dogs are loving/faithful, but cats (act like they) own you. I didn't know that folks in England ALSO use that phrase "Over the Pond," when they refer to the USA. I just thought it was a phrase that Americans use when talking about England. I agree with you --- that when I hear the word POND, I think of water on a village green. My Best to You, VickiViewDate:

Pen palsHello Doreen, Just read your post to Tawny, where you said that "animals are sometimes better companions than humans." Boy, do i AGREE with this ! I love my cats SO much ! They are a big source of joy to me. Do you have any pets ? Or, have you had dogs or cats in the past ? So, what are you up to today ? Do you drive or take public transportation when you go to the stores ? Or, are you lucky, and have a store, or two, withing walking distance of your home ?ViewDate:

Pen palsHello Tawny, It's 1:30 here, so it's 6:30 "across the pond." < this "across the pond" phrase is occasionally used here in the US, when referring to England. Have you heard of this phrase ? Where you said in your post -- that you could be boring me because of talking about your NFP's. No, definitely not --- I love it when people talk about their animals ! < That's the main reason that I'm a vegetarian --- because of my love of animals ! *Sorry to hear that you have arthritis. Not to sound like a "know it all," but do you get enough calcium and magnesium and Vit D ? These 3 supplements are very important in regards to bone-health (i.e. arthritis)ViewDate:

Pen palsHi Tawny, I'm glad to see that Doreen replied to you, and that you're going to be joining our posts. I see that you love horses, specifically mentioning "new forest ponies." I've never heard that term for horses, but I'm gonna look it up on the internet (i just love to learn new things). While I like horses and think they're beautiful animals, I've just never had the opportunity to interact with them. But I am a definite animal lover --- having 4 house-cats and feeding 7 outdoor (homeless) cats. *I'm going to sign-off for now. You know, it's kind of strange, what with you and Doreen being in England and me being in America --- i.e. = It's only 10:30 at night as I write this, but it's 2:30 in the morning (!) where you two are. You both must be fast asleep !ViewDate:

Our favourite recipes for National Vegetarian WeekJust came across this "section" about vegetarianism on Silver Surfers website, and noticed that there were only 2 postings, and these were written several yrs ago ! Does this mean that older people tend NOT to be vegetarians ? I sort of think that I (already) know the answer = Although there "has" to be a certain number of senior vegetarians out there, I don't think there's a lot of them. < when I'm at the grocery store, in the "vegetarian food section," MOST of the folks buying vegetarian and/or vegan food are young people, in their 20's and 30's. Since I live in the USA, I'm wondering if "this" is the same over in England -- where almost everyone who's a vegetarian is a "young person," and there's hardly any SENIOR vegetarians ? ? ?ViewDate:

Pen palsHello Doreen, So, you heard that America's SOUTH is surging with the virus --- and "yes" (like you stated), it's very worrying for me ! Especially since my husband is a matainance man (caretaker, as you probably say in England) at an apartment complex here in Georgia. So, even though you're suppose to "social distance," he really can't, since he has to go into apartments when something breaks (like a dishwasher, fridge, furnace, etc). *I agree with you --- that it would be nice to include this TAWNY in our postsViewDate:

Would you eat lab-grown meat?Hi Yodama, My answer to your question is going to sound like I'm some sort of fanatic, but "no," I wouldn't eat lab grown meat --- even though it doesn't "involve cruelty." I say this because of the fact that a culture is taken from an animal, and this fact is unsettling to me. I know it's silly, since the animal doesn't suffer. I must admit though, that I feel guilty -- with my stance -- since cultured meat would be better for the environment, --- and I do care about our planet.ViewDate:

Would you eat lab-grown meat?If you want to avoid (regular) meat, but still want to get the protein, flavor and texture of meat, then just buy one of the MANY (plant based) faux "meat" products that are available at your grocery store. And there's plenty of brands to pick from = Amy's, Morning Star Farms, Gardein and Field Roast, to name a few. Also, "main stream" food companies have started offering customers "plant based meat" alternatives. i.e. -- "Marie Callender's" has just started selling "faux beef" pot pies and "faux chicken" pot pies, right along side their REAL meat pot pies ! I just purchased the faux beef one and it was delicious ! *I'm a vegetarian for humane reasons. i.e. = I can't stand the thought of an animal being raised, from birth, and then slaughtered, just so I can put a piece of meat in my mouthViewDate:

Pen palsHello Doreen2 --- You asked how I was "managing in Georgia ?" Well, you must've heard that many areas in the US have had an upsurge in Corona cases, with the west and southern areas being the worst. Well, since my state of Georgia is "southern," I'm being REAL careful ! You said that = "We are just starting to get back to normal, but I don't think that the new normal will be anything like normal living for a long time." You asked what I think ? Yes, I agree with you, that the "new normal" won't be anything like NORMAL living for a long time --- if ever !ViewDate:

Pen palsHi Doreen, So glad to see your response ! So, you're also new to this "pen pal thing," like myself. Well, you won't believe this unbelievable coincidence = you said that you live just below Hull --- well, even though I live in the US, my mum was born and raised in HULL ! ! ! With that said, I'm hoping that "this" is fate, and that you and I will become (close) pen pals. *anxiously awaiting your response' catlady24 -- i.e. Vicki Casson [email protected]ViewDate:

"really" making new friends! To Lily49 ---- Oh my gosh, I feel the same way, concerning groups (that you go to to make friends). Just like you, I encountered the same thing --- where people (already) come with a friend or 2 in tow, so they're not "dying" to make new friends. And when the meeting is over, like you said = "They scurry like rabbits at the close of the get-together, and don't appear to want to take it any further.ViewDate:

Pen palsI just joined Silver Surfers and would love some pen-pals, but I'm not quite sure how this "pen pal thing" works ? ? If someone sees this post and wants to be a pen-pal, will they contact me HERE, on this (pen-pal) page ? And if they do, how do we go about exchanging email addresses OR regular (street + city) addresses ? Anyway, I'm 69, but in my mind (and attitude) I feel decades younger ! I'm an avid animal lover, and I've been a vegetarian for 40 yrs. I know that Silver Surfers is located in England, but I live in the U.S. --- in the state of Georgia. But, my mum was born and raised in Hull, ENGLAND, and came to the U.S. shortly after the War ended. I, myself, visited Hull in 1973 --- just for a week, which was way too short because it's such a lovely area !ViewDate:

Looking for pen palsHi Sharon, I'm new to Silver Surfers, and i JUST read your msg. that was posted on 22/05. Since this was a month ago, maybe you have a "ton" of pen-pals by now ? ? But, if this isn't the case, then I'd love to connect with you. I say this because we have some things in common = I, like you, miss getting letters in the mail, like we did in the "old days." I also love animals, and I also like that singing group "Celtic Women." Anyway, if you see this msg. of mine, and you haven't bee inundated with tons of pen-pals already (because your post has been up for month), then please do "write back." It really doesn't matter to me --- whether it's by emails or (old fashioned) letters ! Vicki Casson [email protected] * I don't know if you're suppose to put-in your (real) name and email, but I did it anyway -
