Should we have a second EU referendum? How dare you! I had enough information to make a properly informed decision and I resent your patronising tone that I was an idiot for making a vote opposite to what you were hoping for.ViewDate:

Was life in the past preferable to today?I think the point is not that we want to go back to the things you mention, but in fact that people were in the main a good deal happier as they were not letting the nastiness of modern life prevail. We cannot move without tripping over left wing views, the BBC cannot be trusted any more as they are in hopeless thrall to 'youth culture' etc etc. Life has no balance any more.ViewDate:

Was life in the past preferable to today?Absolutely true and I wouldn't want to go back in time and lose them all. I very much regret that we can't advance and be moral and humane about things without leaving sense, good judgement, honesty and friendliness behind. I am afraid I blame silversurfers mostly for not instilling 'good practice' in their children for them to pass on.ViewDate:

Was life in the past preferable to today?Well said, although I think things have gone so far downwards I can't see how we can ever be uplifted to something resembling a 'decent society' again. It's sad.ViewDate:

Was life in the past preferable to today?I love most of the modern things we have now but what I regret the most is the loss of respect for everything and everybody and I guess that is taught by parents in the first instance and supported by the media and teachers. No-one seems ashamed to swear in public. The breakdown of marriage is seen as nothing to worry about. Many people (and I am including older people as they are fast catching up with younger people) seem to have the view that they are entitled to have everything - now! The current crises in politics has brought out the worst in people who do not seem to have any kind of filter on how nasty they can be about people who they do not know. Trolls are despised on the internet but they are fast appearing in normal society too. I despair when I hear my friends getting heated about University fees, NHS, social care etc, why does everyone think everything must be free - where is the money coming from? when we all have so much more money to spend. This have it all society is really making me very annoyed.ViewDate:

Do you keep your ketchup in the fridge?I do, but it's only because there's space on the shelf for it and the milk would fall over every time I opened the door otherwise. What else is there to do with an empty shelf?ViewDate:

Is there now equality for women in the workplace? It is not a question of luck - education is avaiable to all who desire it and choose it.ViewDate:

Are you surprised that Donald Trump won?I am sorry that Democracy is being so abused both here and in the USA. There seems to be a level of nastiness that is unfortunately mainly manifested by young people, but obviously not all; who seem to think if they don't get their way it is open season on the rest of society. I will wait and see what happens and it might be a great thing to have a president who is not a career politician. It's the system they have and they will have to live with it or change it. He won't act alone in any case, there are others.ViewDate:

Which activity do you find most restful?I love walking with my dog, watching him enjoy being outdoors just being free makes my spirits soar. Even on a wet day it's enjoyable and then even better when we get home and I have a nice cup of tea.ViewDate:

Should an immediate ban on microbeads in toiletries be imposed? But if you check out what Sandra E said on 28/8 you might think again. There are all sorts of negatives about these things. Don't hate yourself, you have just been a victim of a sales push directed at vanity. After all, if your teeth are clean without them, why bother.ViewDate:

Should all cats wear a bell-collar?All collars are easy-release and if a few cats get killed, well that's life, the majority don't and in any case what about birds don't they have a right to life free from being predated by well fed pets? Forget the urban versus rural aspect that's a red herring, farmers do not have a divine right to the countryside and they have messed it up enough anyway. Shooting wildlife does not make you a better person than anyone else or any more intelligent.ViewDate:

Do you prefer the new £5 note?Love the credit given to Winston Churchill but why that hideous colour blue - it could have been so much more attractive.ViewDate:

Will you still watch The Great British Bake Off without Mary Berry? The adverts will ruin the programme, it will probably be dumbed down in the usual Ch4 fashion with some idiot presenters that 16 year olds like and inevitably will end up trashy. I like the format at the moment and cannot bear it when 'celebrities' have to be rounded up and brought on for their share of the limelight. That always makes me turn off. Anyway, the winner is already decided if you watch carefully - and it won't be the most worthy. Look what happened last year, she wasn't really good enough all the way through and poor Brendan - too old, despite being a cracking baker. Paul Hollywood is not enough of a personality to carry a new show, he is too vain and obviously disloyal - again.ViewDate:

Are the school holidays too long?Originally I'm sure I heard it was to help with harvesting, so since that is no longer an issue it is very outdated. Teachers don't need 'a rest' I worked long and hard - being monitored for productivity etc etc. Paying people to do nothing is out of order.ViewDate:

Should an immediate ban on microbeads in toiletries be imposed? Why the EU have to wait until 2020 is beyond me, 4 years!!! Stop the practice now. I note the new extra long lasting Lenor kills fish - it said so on the packaging I read and then didn't buy. Ultimately the majority of people don't care and government has to step in and do the right thing. Production can be stopped immediately, the microbeads can be melted back down to whatever they started life as.ViewDate:

Do you support the Junior Doctor's latest planned 5 day strike? The NHS is now a sacred cow which no-one dares to touch. Doctors cannot give unlimited amounts of time to patients nowadays, to chat is not an option; and this has to be done with nurses now; who also have time constraints. Doctors time is far too expensive and they could be getting on with important things elsewhere. In my experience working in the NHS, some years ago, people only value what they pay for and can see the exchange of money - huge numbers of missed appointments cost vast amounts of money and resources. People are always citing the 'freeness' of the NHS as being vital to the UK. We cannot keep on giving away free treatment for overseas visitors for example, the NHS cannot be bothered to even try to collect payment. Most people carry insurance and passports for identification, it could be simple; but the NHS is reluctant beyond words. It needs to be their legal responsibility. Waiting times could be dropped overnight if doctors would only do 24 hour shifts in operating theatres but they won't - to suggest such changes leads to outrage, but their time could then be used better. People would be treated sooner so their recovery would be easier. Unused theatre time is a disgrace. Unfortunately most people just want cash chucked at the system but it will never solve the problems.ViewDate:

Do you feel lonely? So, today I went to see a 94 year old lady and had a good afternoons chat. It cost me nothing except time, no single supplement was involved and I had a lovely time. There is a lot to do which costs nothing, the WI, little local lunch groups, befrienders of the aged and people in hospitals or hospices, the list is endless. If you join something, you will find others to talk to and become friends with; leading on to outings and perhaps romances. It is all out there.ViewDate:

Do you feel lonely?I have lived alone, but not lonely; for 20 years and more. There is so much to do and I find there are not enough hours in the day. There is so much choice nowadays, and usually cheaper entry fees for anyone retired. There is no excuse really for being alone if you don't want to be - during the day anyway. It's true that most married couples or those with partners seem to only be capable of socialising with other couples which I find very sad indeed, as they never know when they might like some company when one or other passes on. Having said that, I'd never expect anyone else to pick up the slack in my life - perhaps that's the key.ViewDate:
