How would you solve the NHS crisis? Those of you who have been reading the forum relating to NHS funding have seen my ideas vis á vis the use of the foreign aid budget. I am organising an e-mail petition to Parliament, which will read as follows:- “Cut foreign aid, and use all the monies saved to help the NHS, It is obvious that the NHS requires more financial help. This extra financial help could come from cutting the foreign aid budget.” I need the endorsement of five people so that my petition can be published: thus enabling people to vote in its favour. I believe that if I can get 100,000 signatories a debate can be forced in Parliament. Please click this link to sign the petition. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/177775/sponsors/Tay3xAPncOp8WJo6w I have obtained the site moderators permission to publicise my petition. I have been helped by Lionel, who confirms he will be one of the five signatories the petition requires. Should you agree please send your endorsement to the above address. Many thanks.ViewDate:

How would you solve the NHS crisis?Lionel it would take years for the various parties involved to come up with a true budget: years that we do not have. So funds need to be found quickly whilst budgets are looked into and resolved. I am instigating an e-mail petition to Parliament, and need five endorsers. I will not write more as this is not the place to publicise my petition without the agreement of the site moderators. Once I get the 5 endorsements my petition will get a website. If I get 100,00 signatories Parliament must debate the petition: this may be a way forward. My MP just sends a "template" reply.ViewDate:

How would you solve the NHS crisis?Use all or part of the foreign aid budget (2015 = £12,5 billion) to fund any extra monies required.ViewDate:

Do you think we’re facing chaos now we’re leaving the EU?I voted "leave", for two reasons:- I consider the EU is imploding and would drag us down with it. The EU is not democratic. I believe that eventually the wealthy northern countries will 'relegate' the less wealthy south, thus making a two tier EU. Before this happens Germany will probably re-instate the DM for international trade only, which will lead to the demise of the EU.ViewDate:

Brexit and TravelPrior to us joining the Common Market, not the European Union, I travelled a lot on business and leisure in western Europe and never required a visa. I also worked in Germany and France, the only difference then was that I needed a work permit and a resident's permit, but that was no great problem.ViewDate:

The future of the Labour party! In my opinion we no longer live in a democracy. To have a democracy you must have an opposition, and the sooner the labour leaders realise this the better it will be for the country. With regards to Brexit, I anticipate that within 3/5 years our economy will be stronger than that of the EU, but then I don't think the EU will exist in its present form by then. Has anyone noticed that Jean-Claude Juncker is being very quiet after his initial cynical outburst, that's down to Mutti Merkel, who is the real leader of the EU.ViewDate:

TRAVELING SOLO AND LOOKING FOR A COMPANION?I've just booked a cruise for next year. I have been allocated a singles cabin, but have still had to pay a single supplement: this just doesn't make sense! The cruise company can offer no explanation. I wouldn't go except the ship is calling at two places that are on my "to do list" before I pop my clogs. Your thoughts/comments would be appreciated.ViewDate:

Donations - home or away?My heart bleeds for the people of northern Britain, who have been and still are being overwhelmed by floods. Foreign aid from the UK is running at approximately £1billion sterling per month. I feel very strongly that charity begins at home and that we should suspend ALL foreign aid, and use the money instead to help our kith and kin in the flood areas to recover. Once this is done the government should then switch to using the money for flood defences. Then and only then should we continue the foreign aid, but only by 50% of the current amount. The other 50% could be used on the NHS, police, education, etc. in the UK. This would mean that we were still streets ahead of other countries in foreign aid donations.ViewDate:

Should we leave the EU?All my working life I have been involved in foreign trade. The sooner we leave this un-democratic, self-serving gravy train the better. Free trade, the EU is the biggest anti-free trade conglomerate in the world. Look what they have done to poor old Greece! Recently someone writing in the Times described it as the fourth Reich. I could go on, but don't wish to bore you with details.ViewDate:

Are you concerned about your weight?I am overweight and have been obese. I have beaten type II diabetes, but have extreme difficulty in keeping my weight down. I believe it is due to metabolism or in the genes. I walk my dog twice a day, have a very large garden, and as I am a widower I do all my own housework. Yet, I cannot lose weight. Why?ViewDate:

Migrant Problem at the EurotunnelThe problem has arisen because the French are pushing the immigrants, as they don't want them, through to Calais. Under EU rules the country where the immigrant first arrives in the EU is responsible for the immigrant. I cannot believe that all these immigrants first entered the EU at Calais.ViewDate:

Donations - home or away?A young man recently called on me for donations for children abroad. I told him there were plenty of children in England who needed help. We donate more than enough to foreign children by paying child allowance abroad to EU citizens working here. Yet another reason to get out of the EU. It appears that Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden are beginning to understand our views.ViewDate:

What do you think about cutting funding of the Police force? The councils should delve into their reserves to fund any extra costs. Please see my comments under local council funding. It is iniquitous not to use these reserves, which, after all are funded by us the tax payers!ViewDate:

Local council fundingWhy should it? My local councils in East Anglia are sitting on a fortune in "reserves". They should use some of this money (after all like the government, they get it from the tax-payer) to pay for social care, schools, police etc. It's not their money it's tax-payers money!!!!!!ViewDate:

Kindle vs BookHi, I'm afraid that I wouldn't have a kindle. There is nothing like handling a book, turning the pages, or even browsing from the index. I read very little fiction. At the moment I am reading Auschwitz by Laurence Rees. It was written after the fall of European communism and contains many new facts. I can thoroughly recommend it, although the subject matter is macabre. I collect books on East Anglia, Suffolk being my adopted county, and would be happy to swap books for those that I want. Regards to everyone. -
