Are you taking a late summer overseas holiday or have you postponed your plans?Cancelled three holidays this year. Its not worth the risk going abroad. I'll be staying in ScotlandViewDate:

Getting out of the houseHello Margaritta I live 500 miles from Bournemouth so not so handy to meet for a coffee. I spent many holidays in your area. We used to caravan in Grove Farm Meadow, Christchurch. You live in a beautiful area, I hope you meet with other people soon, I know from experience it's not easy being on your own. Good luck.ViewDate:

Where do you find people to chat with, keep you going, make your day a little better etc.?Hello wpshark What a shame your experience of community groups has not been positive. ( I am assuming you have tried some out). I am 64 and feel much younger. I am young in attitude and in good health so whilst I am respectful of our elderly population I want to have a lot of laughs. I have met a few "real life and soul of the party types" who are much older that I am. Perhaps you are just unfortunate where you live. I am not in a village. I meet a mix of age groups from teen to late years through voluntary work. Who knows what the future holds, there are many people who rely on the local halls to have social contact. In that case I would hope to be the person able to make the tea!ViewDate:

Calling all other Insomnia sufferers!Sleeping is a hit and a miss for me. I have read, watched TV, made tea and baked the odd cake or two in the middle of the night. When I worked I blamed just simply not switching off. I have been retired almost 4 years so I guess this just comes with the grey hairs. I could paint my kitchen tonight - maybe the thought will be enough to knock me out!ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandHello Joan I have just watched the weather forecast, once again I am waiting to be snowed in. My niece lives in Southampton and would like some snow, the best I can do is send a photo! I have no plans as yet to head abroad, one trip booked to Ireland in June. My daughter lives in Edinburgh, I visit every few weeks for the weekend. You are right about those unfortunate friends who do not have the health to enjoy retirement, my lifelong friend was only three weeks retired when illness struck. She is doing great now, long may this continue. I hope you keep well and heading off to some sunshine soon.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandHi I joined the site a short while ago. I browse around occasionally. Like you I live near the Clyde. Great place in the summer along the seafront when the rain stays off! I retired 3 years ago, now I don't know where I found the time to work.ViewDate:

Finding my friendHi Angela I am new to the site and just browsing around. Have you tried Ancestry.com . If you sign up for the free trial you will have13 days to search. Don't forget to call on the 13th Day to cancel the membership. I paid a membership for an additional month as I was researching family history. You may be able to find your friend in the USA. I have had quite a lot of success with the site finding cousins 3 times removed I did not know existed. Good luckViewDate:

I have just joined up and am here to say Hello!!Hello Rosie I eventually joined the site in January. I am retired but I keep busy, between volunteering a few hours each week and taking part in other activities. I have met lots of new people and of course I really like my "ladies who lunch" with friends every week. I like walking (when its not raining) and my garden in the summer. Just started knitting again after discarding every pattern I had. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and New YearViewDate:

New to forum and Silversurfers - Hello!Hi Dylena I am from the West Coast and new to the site. I have a bit of pushing buttons to do yet to find my way around the site. I retired almost 4 years ago and to be honest I don't know where I found the time to work. I volunteer a few hours each week and have become involved in other Community activities all for pleasure. Between that and the "ladies who lunch" life is busy.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandHi Escarg I live in the West Coast. I have never been to the Dumfries and Galloway area, just looked at the signpost when driving south hoping for good weather!. I have hardly been on the site since I joined so this will take a bit of getting used to I guess. We escaped any serious flood or storm damage over this weekend, I hope you were as fortunate in your area.ViewDate:

Where do you find people to chat with, keep you going, make your day a little better etc.?Hi I'm Mary and new to the site. I retired 3 years ago and find volunteering is great. I am busy every day during the week and a couple of evenings. I have made many friends through volunteering and attending other community groups. If you live in an area where community group activities are available I would recommend trying them out. You just might be surprised I know I was.ViewDate:

Where do you find people to chat with, keep you going, make your day a little better etc.?Hi Mandy I am Mary and I have just joined the site and browsing. I understand what you are saying, it is hard. Hope you find a way to fill a couple of hours on a Sunday. Have you tried a befriending service. Homes for the elderly are often looking for someone who has a couple of hours to visit someone in care. Might be an option for you.
