Winter in the fiftiesYes I used to have to light the fire and lay it ready.I was taught to make firelighters by rolling up newspaper and tying them in knots! In order to ‘draw’ the fire up the chimney we used a page of the newspaper. Many a time the newspaper caught fire and had to be quickly pushed onto the fire or it flew up the chimney!Im surprised there weren’t more houses set on fire in those days!!ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?I am just reading the twelfth book of the Poldark saga by Winston Graham set I Cornwall in the C18 and C19 and it goes without saying that since I have read so many of the boys,I have thoroughly enjoyed the story.Prior to this I read five books by Bryce Courtney tracing two families from their arrival in Australia in the C19 after deportation through three generations and they were excellent.I enjoy historical novels.Philippa Gregory is also a favourite author.I like to hold a real book rather than a Kindle any day!ViewDate:

Winter in the fiftiesYes I do remember the pixie hats. They were good because they were not only warm but you couldn't lose your hat!!lol!I remember having to knit a hat in junior school shaped like a T then you join the arms of the T to the sides, sew ribbon to the corners and there you had a bonnet!!ViewDate:

Religious choiceIf I didn't have a choice and had to choose it would probably be Catholic.By 'Catholic' I presume you mean Roman Catholic since 'catholic' means universal I think.I would choose that because it is embedded more in the European culture than is Islaam and so I would feel more 'comfortable' in that 'mould'.How about yourself Trampas1955?
