7 retirement planning mistakes to avoidI came to this country in April 2009 and the pensionable age then was 60.... which I turned in the November of that year. I was employed from May 2009, paid my National Insurance for a further 3 years until I received a letter telling me I no longer had to contribute to National Insurance, and my Employer at that time was duly notified. When I eventually did retire at the end of January 2018, and contacted the Pensions Department to enquire how much Pension I could claim, I was informed that I was entitled to nothing as the law had changed. When I asked about what happened to all the money I had contributed to NI when I was lawfully entitled to retire, I was told it had all gone into a big pot and was used for paying benefits. Ever since coming to live in this country I have worked and contributed to Society being a professional nurse and registered with the NMC and just find it a bit unfair that I have never claimed benefits and yet I am not entitled to any form of pension.
