Wills/Insurance policiesAs mentioned above, this should be straightforward but it is not. We took out simple life insurance policies to go to each other on death, if when there is only one of us left we naturally want this to go to our son. When the time comes it should be a simple phone call to insurance company, copy of the Will and death certificate and monies paid. Is there anyone at all on here that has experienced this, Gerryburne, thank you but at our age this is not a logical solution, the insurance is for peace of mind for those left to pay for things needed etc., Boudicca, we can't afford solicitors, probate should not be necessary, this should only be required if an estate is complicated, large and property worth a lot etc., Has anyone had a death and gone through the simple procedure of just picking up the phone to insurance company and it has been straightforward.ViewDate:

International Women's Day - What does it mean to you?Goodness Littleminx, me venomous! I think you possibly take the biscuit there...wow what a wolf in sheep clothing you have been, letting people open their hearts to you and then attacking them. Your views and statistics of men are exactly why I feel ashamed of my own gender, women are certainly not sweet and innocent and are slowly but surely destroying men, decent me at that. Any subjects/posts are here to be discussed but they do not warrant personal attack, but feel free to back bite if you so wish. Perhaps a time for reflection for you,ViewDate:

International Women's Day - What does it mean to you?I wonder why there are over two million single parents in this country today!! Women want it all and they want it now but lets git rid of the men a.s.a.p. So called equality, feminism etc., is the downfall of society, thousands of men are maybe not around in the physical sense because the mother will have done her utmost to sever ties, cast the dad out, (apart from when it comes to financial matters of course) Or there are those who have the father dangling like a puppet on a string, do this, do that, give me this, give me that OR, your not seeing your child. Unless people have had in depth experience of organisations like 'fathers for justice' you cannot even begin to believe what probably a million and a half of these 2 million women are capable of. Personally I am ashamed of my own gender.ViewDate:

Chat and friendshipHi Peter, you are right about valuing true friendships but people seem so wrapped up in their own lives they have no time for others, I know even a simple text or email can brighten my day, personally I have lost faith in human nature and it is really not a nice feeling at all.ViewDate:

How would you solve the NHS crisis?Of course Doctors should work over the 7 days, we do not arrange to be ill Monday to Friday. I have been in hospital quite a few times and it is ridiculous that this or that can't be done until Monday. Same as with normal GP surgeries, you would think we were suggesting they work the full 7 days but this is not the case at all, I recall many nursing staff telling me they were work really long shifts and I felt horrified for them but delving deeper it was their choice, by working longer shifts they had more days off. This is not good practice, we can all only keep on top form for so many hours in the day so this should not be an option. Ultimately the NHS could do with more money but by the same token looking at hospitals alone, regardless of how we value our Doctors and Nurses, there is one heck of a lot of bad management, wasting money, wasting time. just so much bad organisation. Also hand outs to Doctors from the Pharmaceutical Companies to try this drug or that on those who may just be gullible enough to be their guinea pigs.ViewDate:

Top tips!Agree with you cloudless13, my friend ran herself ragged looking after 3 grandchildren, this was not because the parents struggled or needed to 'keep their heads above water' but because they wanted a bigger house, a bigger car, promotion at work. What are they thinking about, talk about having your cake and eating it. Why on earth do they have children, we live in a sad world. My friend then someone and out of 3 months they possibly only spent 1 month together, the rest of the time she was babysitting, she then died...exhausted! Grandparents, stand up and be counted, let a mother, father, look after their own children the way it should be.ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself. Its just called 'consideration' - consideration to others who may have popped in to welcome newcomers or introduce themselves, only to then find some are monopolising via general chit chat. SS can be confusing for newcomers thus they may start to wonder if they are in the right place for intros.ViewDate:

Calling all other Insomnia sufferers!I would not mind the waking up carry so much as the waking up with terrible thoughts, fear, apprehension, sweating with severe anxiety. This has only happened in the last year, I do have various health problems (don't we all) but fear of losing my sight is the biggest as I have glaucoma and my eyes just feel so awful. Also although we see people now and again, i have lost my faith in human nature due to meeting some very nasty people, particularly over the last couple of years, I need people but just can't trust anyone now, therefore I lie there and hold my husband and just can't imagine in a trillion years how I could live without him. I try to recite/sing things like...If your happy and you know it... For me this is definitely connected to age, all the things I could imagine when younger can be pushed to one side but when you age, these fears are lurking like a horror film waiting. Please tell me I am not alone here!! By the way evech what is Milo?ViewDate:

Can older people help young people?P.S. Did anyone watch the so-called celebrities looking at suitable countries to retire to? There is an area in Japan that has a specific employment office for the retired, brilliant idea. I would only like to do a little but to me working in a school would be ideal. In fact I may just drop a line to the local one now!!ViewDate:

Can older people help young people?Retired folk could be well utilised in further education/last couple of years of secondary school. Particularly for those who may have moderate learning difficulties, help them with CVs, show them how to fill in forms, role play interviews, all general transition stuff, school to work. We are wasted and the young are losing out.ViewDate:

BloggingJust browsing various posts and noticed yours Lionel. I hope you wife is feeling ok lately, ideally improving. My son 44 has had M.E. and bowel problems since his divorce and the continuous stress his x wife has caused, still is. He lives in an x council house which is in great need of money spending on it, he has no choice and has to work full time, although he did manage to get one day less a year ago, work via occupational health have helped him a little with a rise and fall desk and couple of other things. He loves his garden, growing veg etc., and the fresh air can help but basically he does not have a life, and there are periods where he is knocked flat, we worry ourselves sick, it would not be so bad if he had a partner, someone else in his life who could be there for him. But you know there are not many women now who want to know a man once they discover he does not own a nice house in a nice area.. He has a great attitude and works in mental health, he meditates a lot and is a living, breathing random act of kindness!! How did you and your wife get on with the writing?ViewDate:

MoralsFor me Marley444 I have very strong principles and morals, probably to my detriment. I am just curious if these actors ever think for a moment as to the content and implications of what they are partaking in. I notice they stopped using real people on Wonga.com but then again they are real voices!!!ViewDate:

Pen palsThis post made me think of just how awful it would be to lose our sight, we could not even pop by SilverSurfers and have a general chat, join in conversations etc., never mind being able to enjoy sitting down and writing an actual letter or see a envelope drop in the letter box and read it over and over with a cuppa tea and biccy. I have glaucoma and terrified that I may be in this category one day, the thought is just too terrifying to contemplate, I suffer from deep down loneliness now, I hope there are things out there for the blind, talking chat rooms or such like, maybe SS can research this and be the first to introduce such things, or suitable forum posts with specifically LARGE PRINT. What do you think SS??ViewDate:

FuneralsWe looked at donating body to medical science but that is not as straightforward as first appears, I think (unless you are religious) and you want all the pomp and circumstance of a church etc., then that is a choice but for me we need to move with the times and get away from the norm of funerals they are just awful. This would also help stop funeral directors ripping everyone off, telling the bereaved 'don't worry, leave everything to us'. Then nonchalantly present a bill for over £5,000 We can make a celebration of someones life after they have gone but I certainly don't want anyone going to a crematorium to watch a coffin (or cheap bag, and that's not me I am referring to!!) go into a furnace, horrible, just horrible. Best for ashes to be returned, scattered or whatever in fave place and those who really cared for me to maybe have a meal together. We are in the dark ages with funerals, lets move forward.ViewDate:

Have you ever been the victim of Internet fraud? When normal grocery shopping last year our Barclaycard was declined, on returning home we could not even get on to our on-line account and had to ring them. We discovered over £3,000 had been spent to buy a car in an area some 300 miles from where live. Our Barclaycard had never ever been out of our possession so how on earth did this happen? Barclaycard had suspected a scam and we were refunded immediately, but hey whats going on!!
