Winter fuel allowance - [DELETED_MEMBER]its got me confused too, i looked it up on line and it says if you were born before 1941 its £300 and from 1941 to 1956 its £100 but both of us have been given £600 ..i am 82 he is 74 , my sister is 75 and lives alone got £350 ... not complaining though as it means we dont have to worry about heating and electricity ..ViewDate:

Black Friday - I've had enough!i had promised to take a friend shopping today forgetting it was the Black Friday thing that has come over from America , however i needn't have worried , it was a normal Friday here in Fife apart from PC world bumping up the price of Ipad air and then taking £30 off . i found it cheaper in Argos and i have nectar point too ..ViewDate:

Invisible at 70yes you are right Minxy, the amount of young drivers killed on the roads here in Scotland is high they seem to start at 17 here as it can be a bit rural between villages ..i didnt start myself till middle age .. mainly because i lived in London and buses or tubes ran every minute .ps careful you dont swallow one of those bullets .. lolViewDate:

Invisible at 70what really annoys me is when the press have a story about a frail elderly pensioner ... it really makes me angry when the age is somewhere in the late 60's i mean that's quite young in my book ..i know i am lucky i dont look or feel my age but still, even 70 plus is not old is it ..?ViewDate:

MEMORIESMinxy , my Odeon is now a block of flats but we did have fun ,us usherettes had a fan following. so we were always being given boxes of chocs and asked out on dates, we were all married though but it didn't stop them ..i even had a song written for me .. in those days it was all female staff, in later years whenever i went to the pictures anywhere the males had taken over the ushering .. did you have double seats for the young lovers .. ? better not tell Tom what to do with the torch as don't want to get banned ..ViewDate:

MEMORIESthe girl walking up and down shining the torch in your face LittleMinx was probably me if you went to the Odeon Notting Hill Gate in the early 60's ha ha , i also used to be the ice cream girl and still have a photo to prove it ..Saturdays used to be late night movie night and we got paid overtime and a paid taxi home ,they used to show Boris Karloff and other such films .. the Police stood at the back with dogs and in the interval the black boys were on one side and the bovver boys on the other side all shouting insults to each other there was always fights breaking out ,i was selling the ice cream and nuts ,i had to keep my eyes on everything as they tried to steal the nuts and whatever got stolen i had to pay it back out of my wages , i also used to sell hot dogs in the foyer ... this was my evening job as i worked in Knightsbridge during the day as a Telephonist at a posh garage where Roger Moore used to bring his car for repairs ... good memories ..ViewDate:

live-in parentOh dear Jeany , what a sad ending for your Mum but it seems like she had a peaceful death and I would have taken comfort from that .. my Mum on the other hand was sitting up in bed doing a crossword after having an op so she could have the home renal treatment But just deteriorated every day .. and ended up with wires all over her which dragged on for 8 weeks ..she was only 80 yr .. It must have been a shock for you and something you won't ever forget to find her turning blue .. I comfort myself that in her last years mum was really happy , she was cremated here in Scotland but then we took her ashes back to Lancashire and had a Memorial in the Church where she was married and a party afterward .she still had 2 sister's left who both reached their 90's the last one going 2 years ago at 96 ..both had heart failure ..my hubby reckons I will go to be that age too , I am fitter than him and he is 10 yrs younger .. ha ha .ViewDate:

live-in parentyes i had my mum come live with us when she was diagnosed with renal failure and given 12 months to live .she had lived 5 hrs away from me so it made sense .. it was a big upheaval for her as she had lived in her house for over 40yrs but once she moved in with us and had her own room and bathroom she soon settled ..she was no trouble and yet we were never alone and some days i just wanted my own space ..we had not long moved to Scotland and i didn't really have any friends here yet so i signed up for some keep fit classes a few times a week which led to coffee afternoons and lunches with ladies i met..so we all settled into a routine ..she had her own TV in her room and after a time in the evenings she would leave us to go watch the programmes she liked .. she had wonderful treatment at the Hospital in Dundee and lived for another 2 very happy years ...ViewDate:
