poodlelover's bio
I am an active, extremely fit woman who loves nothing better than being out in the fresh air walking my dogs on the beach and in the forest every day. I do voluntary work and help with the grandchildren (when I can fit them in) I enjoy meeting new people, reading, classical music, surfing the net and staying up to date on current affairs. -

Introducing the 'sandwich generation'I was a member of the sandwich generation until my parents recently died. Now I am just juggling helping my daughter and my grandchildren so I still have 2 generations depending on me. I think it is important to find time for yourself and now allow family to lean on you too much. I know my daughter thinks I am being selfish at times but that's too bad. I give a lot of time and money to them so I feel entitled to say 'no' occasionally (not as often as I should though) I am lucky that I am active, healthy and comfortably off at the moment so I can be independent but I do worry about the future, especially if/when I need care. I looked after my parents for many years but I am not convinced my children will do the same for me, especially as one lives Down Under. They make all the right noises but who knows if their words will become reality? That is why I am determined to live life to the full while I still can.ViewDate:

Should Theresa May stay or go?Please remember Brexit will affect all of the UK, not just England! But I agree it is too important to all of us for May to be underminded so much. Just let her get on with the job!ViewDate:

Should Theresa May stay or go?I agree she should stay. It's not like the Tories are spoilt for choice, is it? Boris? Hammond? Gove? Davies? None of them fill me with confidence, to be honest. I have warmed to her as, despite all the comments about her being robotic, I actually think she comes over as human and caring. I do believe she has made some mistakes but the people around her haven't actually helped. I think they want her to fail. I am not sure the Party actually likes having a woman in charge and I don't feel May has Maggie's backbone so is more vulnerable. I hope she is allowed to get on with the job and this in-fighting stops soon. It is distracting and childish.ViewDate:

I would like to make new friends for general conversation onlyHi Chris. I took early retirement too but soon found plenty to occupy myself. I do voluntary work although I know it's not for everybody but it keeps my mind active! I also enjoy mixing with younger people. It is a level playing field when you have shared interests. Age is not a factor then although I have found I have now become 'invisible' to some people eg shop assistants. I live on my own but I have dogs so I can talk to them and they always agree with me so I am never really alone. I am also lucky that I drive and can visit my family and friends whenever I want. I do feel for people who are shy, lacking in confidence and therefore often lonely. I wish I had a magic wand to help them but no one can change things but oneself. Easier said than done though as Georgie Girl points out. I was very insecure when I was a young woman despite all the trappings of a happy life. Not sure when things changed for me but I'm so glad they did. I do hope that coming on this forum will help the lonely find new friends. I certainly want to.ViewDate:
