Food delivery services are taking the work out of cookingI noticed that you mentioned Oakhouse Foods here. They specifically target elderly and the disabled in their marketing. They are due to come and bring some examples of their food in a few days to the retirement flats where I live. Ahead of the event, they dropped in some copies of their brochure. Two things hit me straight away. One was the eye-wateringly high prices. Apart from the very expensive ready meals, for 'convenience' they also offer groceries. A loaf of ordinary sliced bread for more than £2? Shredded Wheat cereal at twice Sainsburys price? No thanks! I did a whole series of price comparisons with both Sainsburys and M&S top of the range ready meals. Oakhouse were more expensive by a large margin on every item. Their minimum spend for free delivery is £30. Even having to pay for Sainsburys delivery, they came out way cheaper. I can't help thinking that Oakhouse are deliberately targetting people who could find it hard to go out to shop and overcharging them unashamedly even for the most basic items. I also noted that the brochure contains no detailed nutritional information, or calorie counts and even the website does not have good info on allergens. You have to to work out for yourself that an ingredient in bold type on a list is a potential allergen. Older people who maybe are unable to use the internet, will not have sufficient information from the brochure to make wise choices about the food they buy without actually seeing the packaging - I am only guessing that this includes the nutrition info - the website doesn't show this is the case. If I had to spend just one week living on their food, I would spend over 50% more on 7 main courses and a few basics, and as yet, I can't comment on the quality, I rather doubt that it would be better than M&S or Sainsburys Taste the Difference premium range to be honest! Thanks, I'll carry on shopping in person and cooking from scratch and if I'm ill, I will get a delivery or ask someone to collect my order using Click and Collect. I advise others to do the same. Even my friends and neighbours here who aren't internet users, have children or relatives who will shop for them or put an online order for them.ViewDate:

Is a bad deal better than remaining in the European Union?I'd love to see Rees-Mogg stuffed and mounted. He's the most objectionable person in British politics at this time. Do you REALLY suppose he cares what happens? He's got his millions stashed away carefully, inside and outside the EU so that whatever happens, he'll be quids in - cynical b*****d. He won't be worried if his job disappears or the prices of everything basic rises. He'll still be promoting fox hunting and sending his vast brood to public school while the rest of us queue for food banks. I am totally sick of the fools who advocate a 'no-deal' having absolutely NO idea what it would actually mean, Don't they ever check the false news printed in the Daily Mail and Express? It would be economic suicide and to be avoided at all costs. Yes, I know it is very humiliating for the Leavers to admit that they were lied to from day 1 of the referendum campaign but it's a fact. The whole idea of Brexit was presented as an exercise to prevent free movement when EU migration was never the problem! Far more immigrants come in from outside the EU every day! Do they suppose that on Brexit day, France will take any more care to prevent people leaving their shores in small boats to try and reach the UK? No of course they won't, they will care even less than they do now. Leavers are terrified of a second referendum on this mess of a so-called deal because they know they will lose. The whole process was done back to front. The basic terms of a deal should have been negotiated and agreed within Parliament first. Any sticking points with the EU should have gone back and been discussed and resolved, If that had been done, we would not have a deal that no-one wanted, with the alternative of walking off a cliff. That simply cannot happen. It isn't the end of the story. The EU is now threatening to delay the Brexit process by up to two years, I hope it happens. Plenty of time for a second vote.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? Please, please don't go and vote UKIP! Don't want that passel of fascists in Parliament just when we thought we'd seen the back of themViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? If Theresa May or any of her friends turn up in Portsmouth, I will go and give them a piece of my mind. She is alienating the grey vote at her perilViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? We should have gone for national identity cards long ago. It would solve a lot of problems now. However, there is no requirement to take your voting card with you to the polling station. Let's say I know another elderly person in a different polling area who I know won't vote in person or by post. I could turn up at their polling station and vote and all I would have to do is quote their address. It is ludicrously insecure.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners?I suggest you edit your post and make your meaning clear. Yes there are some people who should not get fuel allowance - like those living abroad in sunny climates, anyone over pension age still receiving a salary. I suggest this test. If you get Pension Credit, you get the fuel allowance without further question. If you ONLY receive state pension including SERPS which is pathetically little in reality, you get the fuel allowance without further question. If you have any kind of private pension which you receive monthly/weekly AND it exceeds a given amount - say £5,000 p.a. then you don't get the fuel allowance. If you have an income from investments OR a salary or other income which exceeds the given amount then you don't get the fuel allowance.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners?I don't have a problem with removing the fuel allowance for those receiving large personal pensions OR are still working and receiving a salary - like many of our MPs - in addition to the state pension AND all the expats who are living in the sun but still get the fuel allowance. However for those of us living on state benefits alone, taking the fuel allowance away is cruel and vicious. My state pension and second (contracted in SERPS) pension fall marginally outside the threshold by just a few pennies from where I could get Pension Credit, but I don't qualify for one penny relief from Council Tax which is nearly £1300 p.a Now I look likely to lose another £200 of my annual income. The only place this can come off my budget is by cutting back on food. It's a disgrace. There are millions of pensioners who will just give up and not even apply for the means tested allowance as they currently fail to apply for Pension Credit. I hope when Theresa May looks at the stats for the number of people who die of cold next winter, she will feel deeply ashamed of what she has done because it will be on her conscience.ViewDate:

Should same-sex couples be allowed to get married in a church?Total nonsense - try talking to a gay person and you might begin to understand btw - I'm not gay but I do have several gay friends.ViewDate:

Should same-sex couples be allowed to get married in a church?I absolutely agree with Jeanmark. All the gay people that I know (male and female) are currently in long term committed relationships that I would regard as equal to marriage. You aren't party to those relationships so you have NO RIGHT to comment that a gay relationship is always predatory and transitory and cannot become 'agape' as you refer to it - I find that idea absolutely offensive and a gross insult to my friends.ViewDate:

Should same-sex couples be allowed to get married in a church? Now that being gay is no longer a crime, then I don't think the churches can continue to refuse especially if the couple asking to be married are active worshippers at a particular church. IMO, if you can say that they aren't proper Christians, maybe you should look in a mirror and ask yourself if you are acting like one. -
