Are you surprised that Donald Trump won?I profoundly disagree with President Trump's attitudes and policies. Although we might argue that we have no right to criticise what the Americans do at home, some of his policies affect us all. His comments about women give the idea that they are not entitled to be treated with respect. Although almost all scientists have said that global warming is largely due to human activity, Donald Trump has decided to re-open the coal industry. This will result in more carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere and an increase in global warming. This could be a disaster for the whole planet. Donald Trump has started his presidency by actions which are insulting to the neighbouring state of Mexico. His ban on people from Muslim states must also stir up enmity in a part of the world where Western countries are viewed with suspicion. If it were necessary to tighten up on entry to America, this could have been done without a fanfare of trumpets. When judges disagreed with Mr Trump's order he insulted them. During the campaign Donald Trump disrespected his opponent and encouraged one of his supporters to orchestrate a chorus of "Lock her up!" Trial and punishment of alleged lawbreakers is a matter for Judges and he should have realised that interference by the executive is dangerous. Faced with this, Teresa May had two alternatives: (i) to treat Mr Trump as a friend and seek to influence him. (ii) to criticise severely and openly. Mrs May chose the first alternative and there is some evidence that she may be having some success. Mr Trump modified his criticism of NATO. I think it would have been better if she had not invited him for a state visit but to withdraw the invitation would be insulting and the result would be harmful.ViewDate:

Should Donald Trump be prevented from making a State Visit to the UK?I profoundly disagree with Donald Trump's policies and behaviour. His attitude towards women is deplorable and implies that they do not have the right to be treated with respect. During the election he said that Mrs Clinton was guilty and encouraged one of his entourage to lead a chorus of ,"Lock her up" He seemed not to realise that law is dealt with by judges and that the executive has no right to interfere. He has moved to alienate the neighbouring country of Mexico and encouraged others in hatred towards her. There is already a barrier between the two states and a wall would have little additional effect. He has tried to bar Muslims from entering the country and insulted the judiciary who ruled his ban unlawful. A more sensible president would have strengthened checks on those entering the country if necessary but not used this to promote hatred.. In spite of the fact that the vast majority of scientists believe that global warming is dangerous and is caused partly by human activity, Donald Trump disagrees. His decision to reopen the coal industry will make it much more difficult to get global warming under control. His actions in this regard may prove a disaster for the whole planet. Mr Trump actually got less votes than Mrs Clinton but because of the fact that this was an indirect election he was elected by the representatives in the electoral college. Faced with the fact of the election of Donald Trump. Mrs May had two alternatives: (i)She could treat him as a friend and use her influence to persuade him to moderate his policies. (ii) She could Become his fiercest critic. She chose the first path and there are signs that this policy may be paying off; after meeting her he seemed to become more supportive of NATO. I do not think she should have invited him for a state visit so soon but to change policy now would be insulting and this would do nothing but harm. -
