Have you changed your mind?I have been unemployed myself and have been through the system all be it a few years ago now, and yes there are many that actually want to work and actively seek employment. The case remains that due to the amount the longer term unemployed receive in benefits and I am not referring to JSA it's a no brainer to stay unemployed as for many they get much more value from the state than they can earn due to low wage levels. I had a neighbour where neither of them worked with one young child and their state benefits were higher annually than my household was earning where both of us were working 40+ hours a week.ViewDate:

Have you changed your mind?Spot on... let those who are able to work but choose not to and claim benefits put something back into the local community. If people choose to stay on handouts then have them work a minimum 30 hours per week in the community, cleaning the streets taking care of green spaces etc this would replace the lack of council workers who used to do this work prior to budget cuts. Also like you say they can assist the elderly and infirm but only those that have a clean CRB check just like those working in the care industry that visit peoples homes.ViewDate:

Should the Winter Fuel Allowance be means tested? How much will means testing actually save after the costs involved with setting up and running the test? Need to have real world figures to see if it will actually save tax payers money or cost more than it could save.
