Should we rule out imported chlorinated chicken from the USA?During the winter each year we sail from Florida to the Bahamas, so we stick up our freezer in the USA . The American consumer is also fussy about its meat and there are clearly labelled choices stating non hormone fed, grass fed and free range in abundance. That’s more than I’ve seen in the uk. I understand also that their chicken is acid washed as is chicken from this side of the world. As for stating that the animals or chickens are reared in appalling conditions- I’ve seen many articles on the internet about just this in the uk. You also see far more free range cattle in the USA than you do in the uk. So I think a lot of what we’re reading is media scaremongering and not all factual. Neither is it comparing like with like,ViewDate:

Should the Winter Fuel Allowance be means tested?I think thats a sweeping statement. How do you know that ? As a well off pensioner, i firstly pay 40% tax and give generously to good causes. I have worked my way up from council house beginnings and invested wisely for my old age needs. I built a business from nothing and worked for years for virtually nothing. Ultimately having 5 outlets and employing over 40 staff. I sold it after 35 years for a good price. At no time during my life did i expect the state to look after me and planning fof my old age was at the forfront of my thinking. I wanted a choice in old age and did not want to rely on the state should i need care. Theres nothing wrong with that and if younger people get the same mindset maybe it wont be such a mess in years to come.ViewDate:

Should the Winter Fuel Allowance be means tested?I'm one of them Donna and no I don't need it. But there's no way of returning it and it is paid direct into my bank account. I don't think anyone who is not living in the Uk should have it. It was designed to help with high fuel bills for British cold winters. Why should someone living in a warmer climate get it? It's on the same level as giving child benefit for kids living in another country.ViewDate:

Should the Winter Fuel Allowance be means tested?I personally have been receiving this allowance and I do not need it. But unfortunately there's no way of giving it back. I understand Sir Alan Sugar feels the same way. It's ludicrous that the better off pensioners get it. It should go to the ones that need it.
