Addressing the Nation’s Growing Demand for Assisted Living

Government reports find the need for assisted living will be increasing in the next decade, with the number of over-65s requiring 24-hour care expected to rise by more than a third to over 1 million by 2035.

Residents at Wadswick Green, a lifestyle village for over 60s in Wiltshire, have expressed how planning ahead for their future care needs has given them peace of mind, greater freedom and empowered them to be more active.

Residents can benefit from onsite care and support in the comfort of their own home, with custom care packages created to help them with daily tasks such as getting dressed, washing, preparing meals, housekeeping and even companionship.

The team of professional carers are available 24/7 and the village’s domiciliary care agency, Rangeford Care, recently retained the “Good” rating by the Care Quality Commission following their latest inspection in November 2019.

Christine and Ron Carter moved into a two bedroom apartment at Wadswick Green in April 2015 after being impressed by the spacious layouts and lifestyle amenities. Christine comments: “Neither of us needed any care then, although we considered that the option being available was a good safety net to have. It so happens that since our move, Ron has suffered a cerebral haemorrhage which means that he’s now dependant on a wheelchair and does require basic assistance.”

All apartments at Wadswick Green are discreetly equipped with pull cords and residents are entitled to a safety button that can be worn around the wrist. “Ron’s had a few medical emergencies and we have been able to push the red button and the carers have come to his assistance within minutes. Having the care team here means there’s immediate help on hand, which gives real peace of mind. I can honestly say that moving to Wadswick Green has really enhanced our lives. If we lived where we were living before, our lives would have been impoverished: Ron would have been housebound,” Christine concludes.

In addition to the care packages, Wadswick Green also offers flexible services for those that want to live independently in their own home but may need assistance on daily tasks. This can range from being accompanied to a social activity or appointment, getting help with personal care, getting up, housekeeping and laundry services.

Resident couple Lorraine and Tony Sach, 73 and 76 are frequent travellers and regularly visit their son in America. While they are still independent, they enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that their house is being looked after when they are away.

Lorraine explains: “We tell the team we are leaving, and they go in, water the plants, and leave the post on the table so it’s all ready when we return. We travel a lot and sometimes we’re away for up to 24 days, which is a long time. We know that if anything happens, someone will be there. It’s very safe.”

The couple also uses Wadswick Green’s housekeeping service: “I have the apartment spring cleaned every time we travel, and the floors hoovered and washed. That way it makes us tidy up before we leave, and we always return to a clean and tidy home!”

“We don’t use the onsite care services yet because I can still help Tony,” Lorraine continues. “But I’m sure in the long run we will need it. The staff appear to be very good and efficient, and that is why we decided to move to Wadswick Green. It’s important to look at the future and consider these things.”

Angela McKimmie, Sales and Marketing Director at Rangeford Villages, the developer and operator behind Wadswick Green, comments: “Moving into a retirement property is the ultimate step on the property ladder, which means the home needs to be a perfect fit for the buyer’s current and future needs. The knowledge of having care and support available is a highly prioritised criterion that we witness amongst buyers, whether they require it at the time of moving in or not.”

Wadswick Green recently launched its latest phase, Ash Lane, comprising 45 modern one, two and three bedroom apartments. The homes boast spacious open-plan layouts, with large picture windows that lead onto balconies with views of the surrounding countryside. Some of the apartments even feature double or triple balconies.

Kitchens are modern with moveable island units; high-quality hardwood flooring and the latest Neff appliances. Bathrooms feature easily accessible walk-in-showers and luxury taps and fittings, as well as a bath in the two and three bed apartments. Utility rooms with separate washing machine and tumble driers have also been designed into every apartment.

For those wishing to live at the centre of the village and close to all the amenities, there are also a number of apartments still available in the village’s Pavilion, with prices starting from £229,950.

Interested buyers are invited to visit the marketing suite and showhome opposite The Pavilion at Wadswick Green. To make an appointment, please call the friendly team on 01225 220 948 or visit www.wadswickgreen.co.uk.
