Expansion of Retirement Village to help tackle North Yorkshire’s Undersupply of Housing for Over-60s

Local retirement village Mickle Hill has made it its mission to tackle the shortfall of retirement properties in Yorkshire, which is highlighted in the latest Housing Summary Report published by Data North Yorkshire*.

North Yorkshire has more than 150,000 residents who are aged 65 and over but there are only 30,000 retirement properties for sale in the region**. With the county’s council indicating a continued growth of the over-60 population, the requirement for new retirement properties has reached a critical level.

To meet the regional demand of an ever growing demographic, specialist developer Rangeford Holdings, in partnership with national older person’s charity MHA, has developed Mickle Hill, a modern lifestyle village for the over 60s. Located in the picturesque market town of Pickering, just off Malton Road, the village will see an additional 37 spacious bungalows being built.

The development already comprises of 90 one and two bedroom apartments and 41 bungalows. Rangeford are pleased to announce they’ve teamed up with Saga to promote Rangeford‘s retirement villages throughout the UK. Rangeford and Saga know that their customers want an assurance of quality – both in care and in their home, the company of like-minded people and, of course, the knowledge that every detail will be expertly taken care of.

Lyth Watson, Director at Mickle Hill comments: “The vast undersupply of retirement properties continues to be one of our nation’s biggest problems. In order to meet the demand, we need to build strategically and start by paying attention to those regions that are affected the most. As the south-east of England sees higher numbers of 60+ properties for sale than the north-east, we were particularly keen to progress with the second phase at Mickle Hill.”

Residents and locals alike will benefit from a wide range of onsite amenities. The village’s entertainment hub the ‘Pavilion’ boasts a cinema, hair and beauty salon, gym, spa, library, convenience shop and café bistro, whilst the adjacent landscaped gardens with outdoor seating embrace the natural surroundings.

Offering the most convenient access to the village’s facilities are the new one and two-bedroom apartments, located in the Pavilion. The interiors have been designed to be modern but equally functional, making life as easy as possible.

Plug sockets are at waist height, the heating can be adjusted easily from room to room, and the modern en-suite shower wet rooms have a pull cord for emergencies. Providing ample car parking, lifts to all floors and wheelchair access, the Pavilion is well-equipped to welcome visitors and residents alike.

The bungalows, which boast a total floor-space of 76.27sqm, feature similar interior finishes as the apartments but further benefit from private patios and guest suites with en-suite bathrooms. Every apartment or bungalow comes with a National House Building Council guarantee, which covers against build defects for 10 years, giving you reassurance that your home is protected.

MHA’s wellbeing service provides peace of mind for all residents. And those who might need extra help with household chores such as cooking, cleaning and shopping, or assistance with dressing and bathing are able to access the support when they need it. Dedicated to making residents’ lives easier, MHA’s friendly team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Apartments start from £204,950 and Bungalows from £349,950. To find out more, please call 01751 245000 or visit www.micklehill.co.uk
