Living the Dream in your own Luxury Retreat

The prospect of retirement often leads people to evaluate their choices, with many seeking a change of scenery or a more flexible lifestyle. When it comes to luxury UK retirement lodges in idyllic settings, The Dream Lodge Group are leading the way.

Today’s generation of retirees don’t want to compromise between the lifestyle they’ve worked hard to enjoy and the peace of mind of having somewhere comfortable and secure to live. With many seeing a substantial growth in the value of their homes, and looking to downsize after giving up work, the retirement property sector is presenting greater choice through new and innovative propositions.

Founded 50 years ago, the family-run company of The Dream Lodge Group develop and operate luxurious lodge parks across the UK. Nestled in each park are modern, chic and eco-friendly holiday lodges, all featuring their own distinct design and outstanding quality that many of us dream about when we imagine life after retirement.

If your vision of the good life is being close to nature, having a beautiful and stylish but low-maintenance home, somewhere friends and family would love to come and visit, but where you can lock up and leave knowing it might even earn you an income while you’re away, then a Dream Lodge could be your answer.

And judging by the response from the 100,000 visitors who attended the recent Grand Designs Live Show in London, where The Dream Lodge Group were showcasing the brand new LAGO Lodge range, a contemporary themed lodge with a minimalistic design, this is a sentiment shared by many.

When we speak with our owners and investors, we hear time and again that they choose us because we deliver on two important fronts: emotional and functional. This is because the Dream Lodge lifestyle embraces nature and independence, but also security and convenience.

For nature, where better than a quintessential English country park, surrounded by pretty lakes and woodland? All our parks offer idyllic walking and cycling trails – plenty to keep you active and healthy – and one even borders an 18-hole golf course. For those drawn to the sea, several are also close to some of the UK’s most stunning coastal areas.

Independence comes from the freedom to explore new surroundings and choosing how to spend your time. As somewhere to invite guests and socialise, you’re in the ideal place, but when the need for solitude rears its head, you can retreat into the privacy of your tranquil lodge. The best of both worlds.

Security is essential – and never more so than in retirement. Our parks are gated, and often have both CCTV and an on-site warden, meaning Dream Lodge owners can simply ‘lock-up-and-go’ without a care in the world.

As for convenience, our lodges are all ‘turn-key’ and ready for immediate use. Each lodge is designed and purpose-built at our Essex factory to offer single level living, with an open plan kitchen, dining and living room. Lodges can be configured for the number and size of bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms according to the owner’s wishes. They come fully furnished, with brand new appliances included as standard – just add your personal possessions to make it truly feel like a home from home.

Our owners are also investors and we like to explain why. Turning property into a money spinner was once the preserve of buy-to-let landlords and private developers, but today it’s possible to earn a healthy income by renting your lodge out for short-term holiday lets. This is why we’re confident enough to make investors a guarantee of their rental income over the first few years of their Dream Lodge ownership. After this period, you have the choice of selling your lodge or being placed onto our sub-let programme allowing you to continue earning rental income. It’s all down to what suits you best.

With a burgeoning amount of unreleased equity tied up in property, The Dream Lodge Group are operating in a significant growth sector. Speaking from our 50 years’ of experience creating the perfect getaway for retirees, there’s never been a better time to become a Dream Lodge owner.

As far as I can tell from the Dream Lodge website their lodges do not have residential status. This means that anyone who bought with a view to living there permanently would in fact be breaking the law.
We almost fell foul of this type of situation (not with Dream Lodge) a couple of years ago when we were led to believe that we could live in the lodge we were interested in buying providing we had another postal address that we could use. However, we subsequently found out that if the council discovered that people were indeed living in their lodge permanently they could serve them notice to leave.
I would, therefore, suggest that anyone thinking of buying a lodge anywhere makes sure that the site does have council approved residential status before buying.
It's also worth bearing in mind that when you do live in a residential lodge or park home you will have a maintenance charge to pay as well as council tax.
