1960

Back in nineteen sixty

Way back in nineteen sixty
We made mud pies
And mums were thrifty
Family values
Post war rations
Less concerned with
Latest fashions

No extra helpings
Were to give
In those days
We ate to live
Even bathtime
Was a chore
Instead our faces
Were scrubbed raw

In the kitchen
From the wash bowls
That multi tasked for
Mixing bread rolls
Playing outside
With others freely
Off ground touch
Handstands and wheelies

Money was used
For basic need
Roof over head
And mouths to feed
Paying the debts
Often uncertain
Hiding from tally man
Behind the curtain

Yes nostalgia is a
Powerful force
As we look back
And think of course
Of all those simple
Carefree days
Where we were poor
Yet so unphased
By hardships that
Were less
Than brilliant
Yet Nourished our soul
And made us resilient….
