A Child In A Moment

Sometimes we need to look at war from a child’s perspective. I wrote this from a young girls viewpoint, she lives in war torn Syria. She is fictional….. or is she?

A Child In A Moment

My face is cut and dirty, I have no shoes to wear.
Our house is now in ruins, it once stood over there.
My father’s dead and buried and my mother cries a lot,
we have to duck the snipers as they take another shot.

Our prayers are seldom answered as the bombs destroy our town,
I’ve seen so many bodies just scattered all around.
I’m only twelve and blameless yet I have so much to tell.
The life we have is torment it’s the closest thing to hell.

No hospitals to treat us, or a school for us to learn.
Just embers of the bombings as the buildings stand and burn.
Once my father read to us before we went to bed,
all I have are memories just drifting through my head.

There is no joy or laughter, just rubble in the street,
all food is very scarce now, there is not enough to eat.
My brother has bad nightmares and my sister never speaks,
we live in trepidation because it’s all so very bleak.

Is there any one who’ll help us? Is there any one who cares?
Can you show us some compassion? Will you answer all our prayers?
My face is cut and dirty I have no shoes to wear.
Our house is now in ruins, it once stood over there………

Are you listening, world?
