A hard one

A hard one

“You show me yours, and I’ll show you mine”.
That used to be my `chat up` line,
But I made them step back a peg,
When I said that it hung down my leg!

In astonishment, they looked at me,
At the thought of this thing round my knee,
A worried frown I would also bring,
When I said that I had it on a string!

“It’s hard”. I told them.  “All complete,
Sometimes gets tangled round my feet,
And one day, (let me tell you more),
I picked it up from off the floor”.

This scares them all, I go in hard,
And smash them then around the yard,
A conquerer then I will be,
With my conker from a chestnut tree.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
