All in Black and White

Love your feature week on nostalgia, here’s my offering ….

All in Black and White

I can remember television in the days of Watch with Mother.
TV sets in black and white before they invented colour.
Andy Pandy, Teddy and their rag doll Looby Lou,
Rag,Tag and Bobtail, Picturebook and “Here comes Muffin the Mule”.

Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men with “Bob up Little Weed”,
And the Wooden Top’s own spotty dog was the biggest you EVER did see.
Tales of the Riverbank, Hammy, and Roderick, real live furry creatures.
All black and white with shades of grey and twitching, whiskery features.

In later days then, after school, running home quick sticks
We’d just two hours of kids tv before the News at Six.
Pinky and Perky puppet pigs, Lenny the Lion through his fingers did peep.
Then “Izzy Wizzy let’s get busy” with that mischievous pair, Sooty and Sweep.

Torchy, Torchy the Battery Boy, Four Feather Falls and Twizzle.
David Nixon with his magic tricks, a gentleman conjuring wizzle !
Roy Rogers, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Tonto and The Lone Ranger,
Supercar and Fireball XL5, all saved us from great danger.

Mr Pastry made us laugh, with his custard pies and cake,
“Hello my Darlings”, slapstick clowning with diminutive Charlie Drake.
Mickey Dolenz Circus Boy, Casey Jones on his Cannonball Express.
Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy, always ended up crying in a mess.

Captain Pugwash, Noggin the Nog, Popeye, Tom and Jerry.
All black and white with Loony Tunes and Melodies making Merry.
Animal Magic, Zoo Quest and Daktari the African quack.
“And finally, “It’s Friday’ it’s five o’clock, it’s CRACKERJACK !!!

Then colour burst onto the scene in 1967.
As children’s telly boomed, we were in television heaven
So get your thinking caps on and ignite YOUR memories.
Can you recall more children’s programmes you watched on YOUR TVs?
