An Old Chestnut

An Old Chestnut

There’s a conker in my pocket,
it called me from the ground,
its a corker of a conker
the best I’ve ever found.

Shall I take it home and string it?
Or keep it as a charm
so I can step on cracks in pavements
yet not come to any harm?

Or if I see an ambulance
whilst walking in the fog
I won’t need to hold my collar
till I see a one-eyed dog!

I’ve still got it in my pocket,
should I put it in the bin?
Nah! I may be pushing 65
but what price the child within?
