Calories

Calories

Oh dear!
The Calories came last night
Silently
Stealthily
I didn’t hear or see them at all
But I know they came
How do I know?
Because they sewed up the seams on all my clothes
Nothing fits
It’s all too tight
What made them come?
Why me?

It couldn’t have been the extra helping of Christmas pudding (with a generous glug of custard)
Could it?
It couldn’t have been the mince pies (with a dollop of brandy butter)
Could it?
It couldn’t have been the few little chocolates (and the few more)
Could it?
Or the sherry trifle (it’s only fruit and jelly)
Isn’t it?
A glass or two of wine never hurt anybody
Did it?
But maybe a bottle or two did (and the cream liqueur)
Oh dear!
The Calories came last night.
