Cautiously Optimistic

Cautiously Optimistic

He looks at her, she looks at me
Eyebrows slightly raise, I understand, agree
I’ve been around for ages, I was made to last
At first my hopes were shiny bright, but that was in the past

I have some of lost my sparkle, I have seen  better days
Hold memories I cherish,  though some vanished in the haze
Thought I was an emblem, a token of their dreams
But people are so fickle and changeable it seems

Hammered now and polished, I’ve acquired a different size
Placed into a little box, she eagerly unties
I have changed hands so many times, will I or won’t I stay
But I am cautiously optimistic…that they will name the day

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
