Christmas

Christmas

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas
Without the Carols and holly
Or cards and presents and parties
And Santa, all happy and jolly

But for some it’s a solemn occasion
Remembering our Saviour’s birth
For others a reason for excess
To deny our purpose on Earth

Deep in my mind there’s a wanting
A strong wish to hear and believe
But an awkward old thought keeps on asking
Is what we are really real?

Was there a stable there waiting
Were shepherds drawn there by a star
Was the Virgin’s baby there resting
If so, that’s the reason we are

Wandering this old world in search of
The answer we’re all looking for
Let’s just hope someday we will find it
Peace on Earth, …….. for Evermore.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
