Dear Mother (WW2), an ordinary man.

Dear Mother

Dear Mother, please don’t worry as everything’s alright,
the boys and me are safe and sound, no bombing here tonight.
I’ve received your lovely parcel and the ciggies were just great,
the chocolate slab was just the job, I’ve shared some with me mate!

Oh son, it was so wonderful to hear you’re safe and well,
just waiting here for any news is like a living hell.
Majorie sends you all her love, as does little Stan,
he’s quite the little rascal now, such a cheeky pint-sized man.

Dear Mother, thank you for the soap, at least I’ll have clean feet.
We’ve taken quite a pounding here, those ‘Huns’ are hard to beat.
Tell young Stan to just behave and give my love to all.
Tomorrow we’re are on the move, another full day’s haul.

Son, please take good care, come back safe, we just want this war to end.
We hope to see you really soon and all our love we send!
Stanley’s lost another tooth and he’s kept it wrapped for you.
I tried to move it from its place and caused a hullabaloo!

Dear Mother, so pleased you wrote, it’s nice to know the news.
the chocolate was a lovely change from all the rotten stews.
Tell Stan I love him very much and to be a helpful lad,
I cannot wait to see his tooth and be normal dad.

Dear Son, I ‘m getting worried now as we haven’t heard a word.
I hope that everything’s all right and nothing has occurred?
Stanley wants you just to know he loves you very much
and can not wait to hear from you, so, please son, stay in touch.

Dear Mrs Jones, it’s with regret I write to inform you………..
