Disconnected

Disconnected

I tried to call you yesterday, I needed some advice,
I wanted to speak with you anyway, I just needed to hear your voice,
I try so often lately, I cannot keep away,
This feeling that I have to hear your voice, every single day.

Sometimes I think these silences, are something so unreal,
Long periods of nothing, where you don’t know how I feel,
But yet I know you understand these silent words I say,
It’s just that I need to hear your voice, every single day.

I sit here and I wonder why. ‘Who did this thing to me?’,
‘Who created this long silence?’ ‘Why was this meant to be?
I look around an empty room, I call a silent name,
But the silence bears down on me, and the silence stays the same.

I tried to call you yesterday, I will try again today,
My life is less the brighter now, since you have gone away,
I will try again tomorrow, to see if anybody’s there,
But I guess the phone to heaven – will still await repair!

God bless you – I love you dearly! xx
(Sleep your rest sweetly) xx

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
