Dogs, Dogs, Dogs

As it’s a special day for all dogs I decided to honour them with a poem.

Dogs, Dogs, Dogs

Give praise to all the canines, from the largest to the small.
They love without conditions, such devotion will enthral.
Yellow, rusty, black or white, brindled, fawn or grey,
the loyalist chum you’ll ever have, who greets you every day.

Big dogs, shaggy ones and some that drool as well.
Even mutts that lick their parts and others who just smell.
Tiny little, fragile ones who feel the wretched cold,
and what about the beefy boys who stand there looking bold?

Then there are the springy ones who jump and bounce around.
Or the naughty ones that slip the leash, such playful, wayward hounds.
We mustn’t neglect the working dogs that work so hard each day,
especially those who keep us safe, we must not underplay.

Whether mongrel, mutt or pedigree, they all deserve our praise.
Give extra thought to those unloved, or the many thousand strays.
Give your dog some extra hugs, just show him that you care.
You’ll never be alone or sad with your dog just resting there.

Every dog deserves a friend and a home to call their own,
a dog’s for life, not on the street, rejected and alone.
Cold, wet nose and doleful eyes, what else could melt your heart?
The day you give a dog your love, that special bond will start.
