Festive Airs and Graces

I felt inspired to put this poem together after over hearing some snippets of a conversation in a coffee shop. The conversation was rather one-sided.

Festive Airs and Graces

Well hello dear, how very nice to see you
You’re looking really well I see
Are you ready now for Christmas
Will you have a real tree like me

Of course, I’m way behind as usual
I’ve got so many things to do
I’ve still got lots of cards to send
And I’ve had them specially printed too

Do you make your own cake and pudding
Oh my dear, were you not taught
Mine will be homemade of course
So much nicer than shop bought

Oh do admire my box of crackers
Yes, I always have this luxury brand
There’s a silver gift in every one
Look, the label says made by hand

Will you be serving up a Turkey lunch
Oh I much prefer traditional Goose
But first, I’ll be serving champagne canapés
Followed by superior smoked salmon mousse

I’ve just ordered a grande deluxe Stilton
So much more classy than Danish Blue cheese
And I’ve ordered hand made liqueur chocolates
It’s just not Christmas without these

Oh, you’ve bought Mr Kipling mince pies
Were they buy one get one free
Nice, if you like that sort of thing
I much prefer Mary Berry’s luxury recipe

Have you bought your Christmas gift bargains
Present shopping can be an awful bore
My personal shopper takes care of that
At the Grand Department Store

Well it’s been a delight to hear your plans
So nice to have met and chatted my dear
Do have a very Happy Christmas
Perhaps our paths will cross next year

I love to write the odd poem when inspired by some event or happening in my own life or that of my family and friends. I usually just write poems for my own pleasure, but I have enjoyed sharing a few of my efforts on Silversurfers and have received some wonderful comments from the community. I enjoy watching Rugby Union. I call myself a 'Hobby Colourist' and enjoy the work of the inky black and white artist Johanna Basford, and I also dabble in photography, in a very amature pastime kind of way.
