Foolish Hearts

Foolish Hearts

My arms still long to hold you,
My lips still feel your kiss,
A trace of your scent lingers,
My heart now starts to miss:
Everything that’s part of you,
Your lips, your smile, your touch,
Your sparkling eyes and humour,
It’s you I miss so much.

More miss than kiss is what we see,
Between us now just space,
Sometimes I struggle to recall,
The image of your face;
Your face and it’s expressions,
Of  love, joy and desire,
Could move my lonely spirit,
Then set my heart on fire.

Connected then, connected still,
All things conceived in haste,
Treasured glowing embers,
Remind me of the waste;
The waste and pain of parting,
When together we should be,
Standing firmly side by side,
Not you, nor I, but we.
