For sale

‘Selling for a friend’. This sorrow,
Here today and here tomorrow,
With just too much to comprehend.
‘Selling for a friend’

‘Selling for a friend’. This sad time,
Long hard nights that last a lifetime,
Dull starless skies, that never end.
‘Selling for a friend’.

Free to take, just needs collecting,
Thoughts ungathered, not connecting,
Cannot see beyond the bend.
‘Selling for a friend’.

Clear the mind and clean the thinking,
Face the future brave unblinking,
Love and trust and faith we send.
‘Loving you, our friend’

Arms and hands and hearts enfold you,
Circle you, protect and hold you,
Shield and guard. Your life defend.
‘Loving YOU – our friend’

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
