The girl who never kissed me!

The girl who never kissed me!

How beautiful a memory I keep within my mind,
Which I very often visit and I look inside to find,
The picture in an image that I hold within my mind,
Of the girl who never kissed me, of the girl so young and kind.

The chance was there for taking, but was misunderstood,
I could have kissed her on the common, or within the leafy wood,
Could have given her the signals, that love was here to take,
But the girl who never kissed me never saw my great mistake.

And yet though old and grey now I still bring her to my thought,
As I reminisce from long ago to what this life has bought,
And though my past is history still written here in stone,
Is the girl who never kissed me – and two lives lived alone.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
