Have you put out the light?

Here is a witty poem written by  Terrence Forster inspired by a question which his wife asked each night! …

HAVE YOU PUT THE LIGHT OUT

Have you put the light out
She always says to me
Of course I’ve put the damned light out
As anyone can see.

I’m sick to death of telling you
One light on each time
If you can’t remember what I say
I’ll have to put up a sign

Its nag, nag, nag, all day long
It really gets me down
I wish she would sing a different song
It would stop me wearing a frown

Now I can’t help my memory
It’s going down the drain
The last thing on my itinerary
Is to put the light out once again

Now she can walk around the house
With no lights on inside
She can climb the darkened stairs at night
Two steps at a time

Did you close all the doors?
To keep out the winter cold
I’m sick to death of telling you
You would think that you were old

I’m seventy years gone plus you know
I tell her every time
I can’t remember everything
My life isn’t that sublime

You need to put your slippers on
Your feet will get too cold
I don’t want your cold feet in bed
Are you listening to what I said

I have to do this, and have to do that
It’s getting on my nerves
It’s no good arguing tit for tat
She thinks it’s what I deserve.
