I May Not Have Been Born Here…

I wrote this about Cornwall one evening when (weirdly) I was feeling creative

I May Not Have Been Born Here…

I may not have been born here in this Celtic land
I was brought up in London not far from The Strand
But I came down to Cornwall, they taught me to fly
I’ve stayed 50 years and here I will die

Once single and carefree and staying that way.
My main line of thought was a romp in the hay
I would never get married, I bought a fast car
But fate intervened, met a girl in a bar

I could not believe how she got in my head
This party boys brain turned into lead
I no longer cared for my bachelor life
The car had to go as I now had a wife

We brought up our family, days by the sea
Jam on first, we scoffed a cream tea
We stood in a gale as the waves crashed ashore
Life in this county is never a bore.

Watergate, Porthminster, Polly Joke, Mawgan Porth
Holywell, Porthleven as we both ventured forth
Looe, Polperro, Mevagissey, Fowey and St. Ives
Some of the jewels enriching our lives.

I never left Cornwall I’m happy to say
And still count my blessings at break of the day
We wander the lanes of this pleasant land
And wiggle our toes in the soft Cornish sand.

The nest is now empty, our children have flown
Happy and smiling with kids of their own.
Who play on the beach and surf in sea
As they grow to love Cornwall like Wendy and me
