I regret….

I regret…

Oh how, I regret that day in town,
When I think of it I have a frown.
I saw my mom with a sad face,
I was in a hurry, as if in a race.

She sat on a bench, hoping someone would stop and talk,
Instead of rushing on by with a very fast walk.
She was lonely, wanted someone to stop for a natter,
All she wanted was a kind smile and a bit of chatter.

I see her now and regret the day,
That I turned and walked the other way.
I needed to get back to work, was to busy to stop,
I’d been out all lunchtime, doing nothing but shop.

How could I have left her sitting there?
Rushed off to work without a care.
I’d give anything to see her now, I’d not leave her sitting there,
I’d love her, hold her and show her how much that I care.

To all you busy kids rushing around out there today,
Make time for your mom or you’ll surely rue the day,
No one will ever love you like your mom,
So don’t have regrets in the years to come.

Mom, forgive me for leaving you there,
Where you could only sit and stare,
Mom, if you can hear me, please believe,
I regret, oh how I regret, leaving you sitting there.
