I wish I had reacted differently

I was upset I hadn’t done anything and wondered why. Was I frightened or worried about what other folk would think. On reflection I thought it was only my perception and he may have been ok and not wanted any interference. Wondered what others would do in similar circumstances…

I wish I had reacted differently

A disturbed man got on the bus
You should have heard him swear and cuss
He was creating such commotion
Shouted comments, with emotion
We passengers did not want to know
Focused our eyes sideways so

The window was our main interest
No contact with this noisy pest
Our eyes not meeting with this man
No visual acknowledgment our plan
When he got off, I breathed a sigh
But I never knew the reason why

He’d come to this sad sorry state
Alas now it is far to late
I’m left feeling bad inside
I know at least I could have tried
Instead of wishing he’d alight
To help him in his desperate plight

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
